ALLEN posted by Robert Heil on Friday, April 18, 1997

Dubois County Query, April 18, 1997 ALLEN My g g grandfather, Coleman B. ALLEN, was married in Warrick Co. and had a large family there. His death record indicates that his father was named Matthew ALLEN. The 1840 census lists a Matthew H. ALLEN in Dubois County as well as a Matthew H. ALLEN, Jr. nearby. Matthew senior does not appear in the 1850 census, but Matthew Jr. does. It says he was born in Tennessee in 1816. Was Matthew H. ALLEN the father of Coleman B. Allen (also born in Tennessee)?

FARIS, FOSTER, KELSO posted by Anna L. Martin on Friday, May 9, 1997

Dubois County Query, May 9, 1997. I would like to correspond with any KELSO/FOSTER descendants whose ancestors came from Spartanburg, SC to Dubois County in the early 1800's. My ancestor Samuel KELSO married Dorcas FOSTER in Daviess Co. in 1819. It was reported that their first nine children were born in Dubois Co. IN. they left IN and stopped for a brief time in Hancock, IL before moving on the MO in 1837. The parents of Dorcas was Henry and Sarah FARIS FOSTER. She probably died either before the move to IN or shortly after. I do not know the parents of Samuel. The KELSO brothers Joseph, John and Samuel all moved to the Daviess/Dubois Co. area in about 1816/17. I believe my Samuel was a son of John but have no proof.

BLACKWELL, DILLON, TAYLOR posted by Evan Dillon on Sunday, May 25, 1997

Dubois County Inquiry- May 25, 1997- Re: TAYLOR/ DILLON/ BLACKWELL Families I am seeking information on the family of my great grandmother Stella Bishop TAYLOR. She was born in Morengo, Indiana in 1854 (where is Morengo? In Dubois county? It's not on any map that I've seen.). She married my great grandfather Edward Ellswoth DILLON in 1873 in Dubois County. Her parents have been variously listed as William TAYLOR and Mary Lanzen BLACKWELL or Joseph and Lovesta TAYLOR or Lansden Robert and Avesta Anna TAYLOR. Does anyone have any reliable information on her family or any TAYLOR or BLACKWELL family in Dubois County circa 1860?
