My ggggrandfather, Andrew MCWILLIAMS is supposed to have come from Ireland with his wife Rebecca, and their first, maybe only son was supposed to have been born in Augusta Co. VA, 7-30-1798. John and Rebecca and their eight children appear on the 1840 and 1850 Bledsoe County, TN census. I don't know when they went to TN, or or any- thing before Andrew and Rebecca gave birth to their son, John, in 1798. Caspar Eckard was living in the present site of Pendleton County, WV, which was Augusta in 1778. He wrote in a deposition that he was going to "fight the heathens". His will was executed in 1779 because he never returned from this offensive. He was fighting under a Capt. Right. Can anybody shed some light on what offensive against the Indians was occuring in this area in 1778? The only thing I have found that is close is an offensive out of Fort Pitt against the Ohio River Valley.

SYLER/SILER, John; b.1839 in VA, d.1921 in OK. His death certificate shows his parents to have been "Jake" (Jacob?) SILER, and Rebecca CASTLE (poss. born in Maryland). The 1840 census shows a Jacob SYLER in Augusta County, with a boy of John's age at the time. The family seems to have moved to Ohio by 1850, but Rebecca may have died by this time. Jacob may then have married Elizabeth ___. I am trying to trace back in time. Both spellings of surname found in records. Any clues welcome. Thanks.

William ANDERSON b. 1750 was appointed a Capt. in the Augusta Co. Virginia militia in 1777. According to DAR citations, he married Mary CRAIG b. 1752. He removed to Kentucky in 1784, and died in Fayette Co. KY in 1817. I see there is a Craigsville in modern Augusta Co. so wonder if Mary and William married in Augusta Co. in the 1770s perhaps. William was my GGGgrandfather. He had a second wife named Catherine Blair. Hoping someone might know something about William ANDERSON's place of birth, parents, and same for Mary CRAIG, and their place/date of marriage. Thank you.

I am looking for any information on John WILSON who married Susanna CRAIG in Augusta County in September, 1816. Susanna was the daughter of Robert and Susanna CRAIG. Robert Craig died in Augusta County in 1806. I believe John and Susanna Craig Wilson moved to North Carolina and appear in the Yancey County, NC census for 1850. John Wilson in the 1850 North Carolina census shows that he was 60 years old and Susanna was 54. They had at least four children: Samuel, Mitchell Alexander, Dorcas and Sarah. I have always suspected a link with a Mitchell or Alexander family because of their son's name. Any help on this family would be highly appreciated. Thanks, Stuart R. Wilson.
