St. Michael's Church in Hamburg, PA, was organized in 1790. The present church was built in 1875.

ST. MICHAEL'S CEMETERY - GOETTEL

In memory of Hattie Goettel born Aug. 5, 1758, died Aug. 22, 1766
A daughter of Henrich and Philippine, nee Gachmann, Gottel.
She was killed by lighting and was the first burial in this cemetery.
The Goettel family migrated from Germany and settled on what is now
St. Michael's Church property and this cemetery, and were pioneers in
establishing St. Michael's Church.

Erected May 30, 1837 by St. Michael's Union Cemetery Co. Inc. in honor of
the first burial in this cemetery and the Goettel Family.

ST. JOHN'S CHURCH, HAMBURG

St. John's Church in Hamburg is the oldest in the borough. The first church, built in 1790 was a German Lutheran and Reformed Church. The second church was built in 1814 and the third corner stone was laid in 1857.

Rev. Iaeger was born July 20, 1796 in Illingen, Germany. He came to this
country in 1817. He was a pastor for 60 years in several churches located
in Berks County. Some of the churches are:
Dunkel's Church, White Church, Zion's Church, Frieden's Church, Alsace Church.
He died Nov 16, 1879 and is buried at St. John's Church in Hamburg, PA.
