Submission Forms

The OH-FOOTSTEPS mail list began on November 21, 1998 and has become a major part of the OHGenWeb Project.

What is OH-FOOTSTEPS?

This list is the place for you to share your original Ohio source material... wills, deeds, bible records, tax lists, cemetery files, pension applications, obituaries, old letters, marriage lists, etc... with other Ohio researchers.

Please note that queries are not allowed.

Click Here for List Information [Subscription, Unsubscription, Posting, ect.]. (Please note that this is a very high volume list.)

Note that items submitted via the Submission Forms are automatically sent to the oh-footsteps@maggie-sz.org mailing list so you don't need to send it to both places.

SUBMISSION FORMS: These forms at http://www.genrecords.org/ohfiles/ allow you to type your record and submit it. This will create a file in a format acceptable for OHArchives and ready for posting. These forms are not mandatory and if you have data already typed please send it in text format to the Archives File Manager. Copies of the information will be sent to either OH-FOOTSTEPS-L list.

How to submit your information

To post your information to the list, send an email to: oh-footsteps@maggie-sz.org

Please follow these guidelines when submitting your information in order for readers to quickly know if it is something they might be interested in reading or want to delete:

In the subject line put:

TYPE OF FILE: Surname, date, county

For instance if your file concerns one individual or surname:
OBIT: Smith, 1903, Erie Co
WILL: Jones, 1878, Pike Co
CENSUS: Brown, 1860-1870, Franklin Co

If your information is a complete list of all available records:
TAX LIST: 1808, Knox Co

If your information is too large for a single email please submit it showing part numbers:
CEM: St Mary's, Kenton Co, part 1 ( part 2 or # 1 # 2, etc)
MARR: Miami Co, 1860-1880, A's (etc)

If you are unsure of what to use for your subject send me an email.

Is the list archived somewhere?

The digest of the mail list is being placed in the OHGenWeb Archives ending on August 1, 2006. All the messages are available in the ROOTSWEB OH-FOOTSTEPS-L Archives.

Starting in April 2008 the main archives has moved to OH-FOOTSTEPS-L Archives.

Archives Search Engine If you don't know which specific region to begin in, the Ohio Archives Search Engine is a good place to start. (Or search other States at the USGenWeb Archives Search-Engine.) There you may search by Surname or other key-words.

I hope you enjoy the list!
And please remember... Queries are not allowed!
