Thomas Winfred Benson was born May 23, 1927 at Edmore, Ramsey, North Dakota to Winfred Selmer Benson (Find a Grave Memorial #13770974) and Olive Cecelia Sampson (Benson, Ruysbroek, Brown (Find a Grave Memorial #153020435). Thomas had a younger sister, Mabel (born 1928).
Thomas appears to have been counted twice in the 1930 census: Found in the 1930 census at St. Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota: Winferd R Benson 26, Olive C 27, Thomas W 2 years 10 months, Mabel 1 yr 3 mos. Also found in the 1930 census at Edmore, Ramsey, North Dakota: Ole Sampson 59, Cecelia 53, Winford 26, Olive 27, Thomas 2 yrs 11 mos. (Ole and Cecelia are Olive's parents.)
Thomas’ parents divorced. His mother married a John W Ruysbroek.

Thomas graduated from 4 years of high school at Edmore, North Dakota. He never married, nor had children. In 1945, he enlisted in the US Army and served as a First Lieutenant.
Thomas was killed in action February 26, 1953 at North Korea during Korean War. First Lieutenant Benson was a member of the 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. First Lieutenant Benson was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
