Phillips September 21 1912

Dear Linwood & wife

I have been thinking of writing for months but it is hard work for me to write & my hand shakes so that my writing looks like hens treacks So have neglected to write. We have wanted to see you both very much.

Genie was here two weeks we enjoyed her visit very much She can’t get over feeling bad because she could not keep you all night when you were there She bought a bed couch very soon after that so if you ever go again she can put you up. Your father visited her since she went home He came Sunday morning & went back Thursday noon She thought he had a good time.

Daniel came home today, he has been all summer working as bell boy for Fred Burns. Mr Burns has lots of camps & has summer boarders his camps are on the shore of the lake of course Charlie & Clara are going to Boston next Thursday if nothing happens Charlie has worked in the machine shop of the railroad a year. The road gives them a pass all the way there. Hope they will have a good time.

Clara’s health has been rather poor this summer but is better now. It will be nice to them to have a few days rest. Hope you are both enjoying yourselves first rate Remember I was 81 years old last April & excuse. This letter I should be glad to hear from you if you can find time to write either of you I mean.

Love from Grandma

Dear Linwood

I never expected to be great great grandmother but I don’t feel any older than I did before Hope baby’s mother is getting along nicely. I wish it was earlier in the season so you could visit us when the babys mother was able to come, but don’t suppose it would do to bring baby so far in the cold. Perhaps I shall be among the living next summer if so hope you will bring you family to visit us I am pleased with babys name & hope she will be a great comfort to you both.

I am ashamed of this letter. Don’t hardly think I shall ever try to write to anybody again but Genie.

Love to all of you from

Grandmother Eliza

The baby referred to in the letter was named for Inez A. French who was the daughter of Eliza and the wife of Henry L. Carr. Inez French and Henry Carr were Linwood French Carr’s father and mother. Inez A. French died when Linwood was only 9 years old.
