Accident Kills Woodford Teenager

A Versailles teen-ager, Richard Lawson, 19, Route 2, is reported in good condition today at St. Joseph Hospital where he is being treated for injuries received in an automobile accident which killed his companion, Russell Wayne Wiley, 16, Delaney Ferry Road. The youths were traveling south on the Hifner Road Wednesday afternoon when their car apparently went out of control, skidded 15 feet and hit a tree on the driver's side.

Wiley, who was listed as the driver, was pronounced dead on arrival at Woodford Memorial Hospital at 2 p.m. by Woodford Corner Dorsey E. Clark. Clark said the boy died of multiple skull fractures and massive brain damage.

Lawson suffered multiple scratches and lacerations and internal bleeding. Police said he was a passenger in the automobile. He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, where he underwent surgery, and is reported in good condition today. Deputy Sheriffs Paul Sames and William Crain investigated the accident.

Wiley is survived by his mother, Mrs. Alice James Wiley, Versailles; his father, Estill Wiley Jr., Frankfort; a sister, Mrs. Charles Courtney, Fayette County; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe James, Woodford County, and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Estill Wiley, Frankfort.
