CHINN, Lewis Edward Beaver Dam Ohio Came home

Was in the Air Force from 1941 until 1961, when he retired.  During World War II he was a waist gunner on B-17's, stationed in England.  In 1944 his plane was shot down over Germany, and the crew bailed out.  Lewis had injured his knees upon hitting the ground.  They were captured and forced to walk several miles.  They spent the rest of the war in a German prisoner-of-war camp, until they were liberated by the Russians in 1945.
Lewis was awarded the Purple Heart and later had to have surgery on his knees to correct the damage done.  He is an active member of the Ex-POW organization.
