SUBMITTER: EMAIL: DATE: Thurs 8 Apr 1915 SOURCE: Volkesbote Wochenblatt (translated) Landstadt News, Page 33 KRAKE, Delos W., of Town Hartland and one of the oldest pioneers of Shawano County has passed away last Monday at the age of 86 years. He was born on 28 December 1828 in Montgomery County, N.Y. into a family of fourteen children, of which only three are still living. His parents were Jacob and Eve Krache. The deceased came to Wisconsin at the age of 23 years. In 1859 he came to the land of Section 16 Hartland, built an 8 by 12 hut and cleared about five acres of land. In 1861 he served in the Civil War in the First Wisconsin Volunteer Regiment and took part in many battles. In 1864 he married Polly Strate and brought her to his farm in 1866. Mr. Krake was the first postmaster in Town Hartland. The five children surviving are: Mrs. Wm. Shier from Angelica, Mrs. Julius Nadler from Bonduel and Louis who is on the homestead.
