My great great grandfather was William ALLBRITAIN who appeared in the 1820 census of Loudoun County as married with 2 children. I have been seeking the name of his father for some 19 years. John ALLBRITAIN is the only person of that surname and he appears in Loudoun County court records from about 1776 to 1794 and then he turns up in Fairfax County and dies about 1804 (from court records, not death or cemetery records). I have found no birth or marriage records. From census records he apparently owned no land and left no will that I can find, although I have searched court house records in Loudoun and Fairfax counties. I have almost given up hope. This William ALLBRITAIN married Mary DANIEL and moved to Ohio is about 1832. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

DOVE 22 July 1996 FROM Karen Wood
karenwood@del.net

I am seeking information on William DOVE b. 1758, parents unknown, in
Charles Co, Md. Moved to Fairfax Co, Va in early childhood with parents.
He is listed in 1782 heads of household for Fairfax as having family of 4,
and moved to Pittsylvania Co in 1783. He may have brother Leonard, who
also appears in Fairfax and Pittsylvania about same time and there are
children of Leonard in Pittsylvania Marriages (1767-1805) (Knorr's book).
I know a nephew Stephen was required to come a distance to testify
regarding William's Revolutionary War service and that he lived with
William's mother during the war while William was away (1777-1781 off and
on). My question is where do I find records of William's marriage in
Fairfax Co, probably between 1781-82, but possibly slightly earlier. He
was on a ship from 1778-79 and again in 1779--80. He was home for a while
and then rejoined the Army at Yorktown where he guarded Burwell's
warehouse. Any information would be helpful, regarding parents, possible
siblings, wife. I know children from will of William DOVE, but wife
predeceased him (he died 1847 age 89). I would be happy to share what I
have. I think William DOVE's pension testimony is the only surviving
testimony regarding the Militia that marched from Alexandria to Germantown
in 1777 to head off the British landing at the head of the Elk. I looked
in the book, Va. Militia in Rev. War, and he is the only one listed in the
unit. His testimony is in that book, although I have a copy of the
original from the archives.

12 February 1999 FROM Don McAllister fmcalli1@maine.rr.com

John MOODY was born 7 August 1858 in Stoneham, Me. He was married to whom is the question. His father was Albion MOODY who died in 1920 leaving a will which listed the grandchildren. No one in the family knew of John, what he did, how or when he died. What he did for a living etc. The Children of John listed are Arthur, Ellen R., Thurman, Lottie, Elsie S, Nettie, Addie, and oddly Leroy Tweedy. Had John's wife been married before? Six of these grandchildren were listed as living in Lorton, Virginia. It is apparent when Albion died 9 July 1920, John was already dead. Would appreciate any help with this family. Thank you.

MOORE
23 March 1998 FROM Kristina Simms kris@alltel.net

MOORE, Jeremiah & Lydia. He was a revolutionary era preacher in Fairfax Co. I am wondering if my g-grandfather Jeremiah Neuville MOORE whose father, William Boling MOORE, was "born in Virginia," is related to this family. I have seen the names Wm. MOORE, William BOLING and Robert BOLING in Fairfax County research. I know that this Jeremiah and Lydia had a son named William F. MOORE, but do not know if he had children or if any of this family moved to Georgia. William Boling MOORE was b. in Virginia about 1814 and lived in Baldwin Co GA. I think he came to Georgia as a child or infant with his family. They may have lived in Jefferson County (Louisville GA) before Baldwin Co., but that's only a guess on my part. Would love to hear from someone who knows about these families.

SMITHERMAN/BARKER/PITTMAN
27 September 1998 FROM Carolyn Odle Smotherman smotherc@ten-nash.ten.k12.tn.us

John SMITHERMAN, who first appears in Fairfax Co, VA tax lists in 1790 (therefore born about 1769?) married Mary, but not Mary BARKER who apparently married Samuel SMITHERMAN, Jr. John and Mary had sons Lewis and Elijah SMOTHERMAN. William BARKER who died in Wake Co, NC had sons Lewis and Elijah BARKER. If the connection is not through the Barker family, and I don't believe it is, then who was the wife of William BARKER of Wake Co, NC? Could she have been a PITTMAN? That name is in the Smotherman family. Any clue on this will be gratefully acknowledged.

Jackson was said to have made many trips moving people to Ohio and may have run a freight line. He helped move a Noah SWAYNE, a friend from Virginia to Ohio. Jackson and Margaret moved to Ohio in November 1833 with 7 or 8 children and settled in Coshocton County. The 1820 census shows a Thomas WILLIAMS and a Thomas SWAYNE, both of Truro Parish in Fairfax County, lived close to each other. I would like to know if these people are Jackson's family and Noah SWAYNE's family. Greatly appreciate any help. Ronald L. Williams, Coshocton, Ohio.
