Chesterfield County was formed in 1749, when Henrico County was split -
that part of lying to the south side of the James River became Chesterfield County.
The county seat is Chesterfield.
The City of Richmond annexed Manchester in 1910, and more land in 1970.
The City of Colonial Heights was formed in 1948, by court order.
