I descend from George W. Lynch b. 1850/1848 m. Emily DeFoor b. 1854.
His parents were John R. Lynch b. 1798 in PA and Sina Shoat b. 1816 in
TN. Her parents were David Shoat b. 1779 and J.M. Shoat b. 1785. The
Lynch information is on file in the Lynch family folder at Clayton
Library/Houston. It was done by a professional genealogist hired by
ARCO in the 1960s to trace heirs for John R. Lynch for some type of
land rights lawsuit. I have a copy of the genealogist report, but I
don't know what the lawsuit was about. That's as far back as I have on
the Lynch/Shoat line. There is also a write up in the History of
Limestone County book under Lynch Lineage, also available at Clayton
Library, which is basically the same.

It would be great to be able to find the burial spot of Sarah McCLAIN
HODGES. I am a direct descendant of her and Edmund through TWO of
their children--Hetty m. Lindsey James RUTHERFORD and Sarah (Sally) m.
James Minet HALLMARK.
Sally Hodges Hallmark is buried in the Faulkenberry Cem. in Grosbeck;
Sarah's son, Jacob Mickler HODGES is buried in the Tidwell Cem., near
Thornton.
Hetty Hodges RUTHERFORD is buried at Keechi Cemetery, Leon Co. TX and
sons Isaac and Benjamin are both buried in Leon Co. as well. I'm not
sure where Abel HODGES is buried.
Some of Sarah's sisters and another daughter/s ended up in Trinity Co.
TX as did other MCCLAINS. I don't know where they are buried.
Records in Sarah's War of 1812 Pension papers indicate she bounced
around from child to child/relative to relative during most of her
life in Texas. Surely she's buried near one of them!!!!!!!! Karylon A.

There is no Hale listed in the index of this book. page 60 (1871)An
unrecorded reign of terror began in the vicinity of old Springfield
with the appearance of a white man, known
to the Negroes as Dixie. (footnote reads: Simp Dixon was killed near
Springfield on February 2, 1870. It is thought that this Dixie is a
relative of Simp Dixon.) According to elderly Negroes, Dixie proceeded
unrestrained to murder their kind whenever and wherever he caught
them. For more than thirty years a piece of rope dangled from a
bending tree on the old Springfield-Groesbeck road and legend has it
that Dixie hanged Seymor Abrams and Norville Rhodes there. In fact,
the period has given rise to many legends which, for lack of records,
can not be authenticated.
page 97: Doyle, originally called Shady Grove, is situated five miles
north of Groesbeck. Doyle was named in honor of William Elliott Doyle,
a prominent attorney, editor, and mayor of Mexia. Joseph B. Dixon was
appointed postmaster in 1903, and at that time the community changed
its name.
These are the only two Dixons in Ray's book no other spelling.

Benjamin Franklin (Ben)
Napoleon Bonaparte (Boney)
Sallie Joanna
Jefferson James (Jeff)
Thomas Pinkney
Deborah Janette
Lorenzo Bedford (Wren)
Alfred Joseph (Job) Clancy, was born in South Carolina, probably in
Sumter District, and moved with his parents to the Mount Ida area of
Pike County, Alabama around the year 1830. He married Sarah Elizabeth
Ganey of Butler County, Alabama in 1851.
A memory passed down to his granddaughter, Allie Rutherford, was
Job’s recollection of the “Night the Stars Fell”, when
his father and mother held his hand during what we understand now to
have been a spectacular Leonid meteor shower. Job was about 8 years
old (according to Allie) when this event occurred.
Job served in the Civil War with the Army of Tennessee in Company C of
the 57th Alabama Regiment, Infantry Division. He enlisted in February
1863, was discharged in February 1865, and received a pension as a
result of a disability incurred in battle. Job fought in the
Dalton-Atlanta campaign, where his unit was cut to pieces in the
Battle of Peach Tree Creek. The 57th Alabama also suffered severe
losses in the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee. Based on the timing of
his discharge, it is likely that Job’s wounds were suffered in
the December, 1864 Battle of Nashville, the last aggressive action of
the Western Southern Confederacy, and another battle in which the 57th
Alabama had a large number of casualties. In his pension application
Job wrote that his disability was “being crippled in the foot and
leg from a wound in back from bullet in War”.
Part of a large migration out of Pike County in response to oppressive
federal reconstruction policies, Job and wife, Sarah Elizabeth, came
in the late 1860’s to Texas from Alabama in a wagon, settling
first at Navasota, then in the Honest Ridge community near Mexia, and
finally at Box Church.
His grandson Joseph Clancy, remembered Job suffering a snakebite on
his big toe, a wound that left him with a crooked toe for the rest of
his life. A competing version is that Job’s toe injury was the
result of frostbite suffered during the Civil War. Job is remembered
as a small man with a long beard that extended almost to his waist,
and according to his cousin, Ralph, Job was a woodworker and a first
class carpenter. His granddaughter, Eva Rutherford, recalled that Job
entertained everyone by playing the fiddle. Eva also remembered that
Job’s favorite meal was chili and rice.
In his later years, after his wife passed away, Job lived with his son
and daughter-in-law , Wren and Janie, and their 14 children until he
passed away in 1917. Even at the age of 91, he worked on the farm
daily. Job died of a disease called "earasiplus" (sp?) which may have
been an infection (staph?) that started around his eye and spread
downward, until it seemed to circle his neck like a red handkerchief.

I saw your query. Don't know how much information you have on this
family. I don't know anything about Bee's desc. other than his
children shown on 1910 census, Mart, McLennan Co., wife Mattie, 23,
Margarrette, 2, Hugh, 7/12 and brother Tip, 29, b AR (Bee was 30, b
AR). I think this B. was shown on 1900 Limestone Co, b Jul 1879, hired
hand of J. L. Widener, along with M. S. Coker (I didn't transcribe
whether M. S. was male or female so I don't know who this person is),
b Sep 1840, cousin of J. L. Widener. I believe the Nicholas Coker you
mentioned was son of Michael M. Coker of Clark Co., AR, and Tip was
shown close to Michael on 1900 census so could have been his son along
with B. Let me know if you already have or if you want more info on
Michael. Hope this helps.
