Edmund Wyatt Family-A History

Edmund Wyatt Purchased land in Randolph County in 1812. He married Mary
Collett, and we believe Mary's father father was the Rev. Thomas Collett.
(Thomas had a brother named Solomon Collett). We are still researching the
ancestors of Edmund Wyatt.
His daughter was Jane Wyatt who married Samuel McCan of Randolph County,
(Samuel being the son of William McCan and Sarah Ann Lanham) and was later of
Lewis County Va. We believe a son of Edmund was John Wyatt, as in a letter
written by Samantha McCann, she refers to John Wyatt as "Uncle John Wyatt".
Samantha is the daughter of Squire Bosworth McCann, (who is the 1st son of
Samuel McCan and Jane Wyatt)
John Wyatt was born in 1800 and married Elizabeth Rains. He is said to be the
first settler between Dry Fork and Shaver's Creek. He settled in Middle Mt in
1827.
John's son Elias, (or Ellis) was born 1824 and married Mary Pennington (The
daughter of John and Winnie Pennington.). In 1848 he built the 1st house in
the area. After the Civil War John Wyatt was the 1st and only Democrat to vote
at Dry Fork. No Democratic ticket had been printed, and one had to be printed
for him.
The children of Elias Wyatt and Winnie Pennington were:
Jacob Flanagan Wyatt
Samuel Crane Wyatt
John Imboden Wyatt
Seymour Wyatt
Solomon Wyatt
Jasper F Wyatt
Ellis A Wyatt
Washington Wyatt
Phebe Jane Wyatt
Mary Ellen Wyatt
Lenora E Wyatt

Some Wyatt History
The Wyatt name is English...the Medieval name derived from "Wigheard" composed
of the elements "Wig, War - Heard, Hardy, Brave, Strong.
An English family called "Wyatt" were closely linked wit the Boleyn family and
through them with henry V111, Sir Henry Wyatt was Joint Constable of Norwich
Castle, with Thomas Boleyn, , whose daughter Ann was raised with Sir Henry
Wyatt's son Sir Thomas Wyatt (1503-42) Sir Thomas's great grandson, Sir
Francis Wyatt (1588-1644) became the Governor of Virginia. His wife's family
had great influence with the London Virginia Company, and Wyatt was named the
Company's Governor in 1621 and became the first "Royal Governor" in 1624.
