is one of the substantial residents of Marion county. He was born in Fairmont
district February 29, 1840, a son of Thomas Ward Demoss Evans, who came to
Marion county in the fall of '38, from Monroe county, Ohio, of which State and
county he was a native. The mother of D. Stanton was Maria (Barnhouse) (Arnett)
Evans, born in Hampshire county, Virginia (now West Virginia). The marriage of
D. Stanton Evans and Cornelia Frances Russell was solemnized at Booths creek,
Grant district, Marion county, November 30, 1871. Their children, all at home,
are seven, born: Alfred Clyde, October 8, 1872; Mary Catharine, December 12,

Morrow, May 19, 1879; Leonard Carr, March 2, 1881; and Charles Lewis, May 27,
1882. William K. Russell, a native of Frederick county, Virginia, and Elizabeth
Jane (Wilson) Russell, born in Hardy county, Virginia (now West Virginia), were
the parents of Cornelia Frances, wife of Mr. Evans, and she was born in
Fairmont, January 26, 1848. The farm of Mr. Evans was the scene of many daring
and romantic adventures in encounters between the first white settlers and the
Indians, there being at one time an established Indian camp on the place. Mr.
Evans served on year, 1870, as township treasurer, the last under the Old
Constitution, and had filled various district offices. His postoffice address is
