JENNA L. MCCARTY
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, March 24, 1999

Jenna L. McCarty, age 70 of Winchester, VA passed away on 
Thursday, March 18, 1999 at the Winchester Medical Center.

Born July 5, 1928 in Bridgeport, Ohio, she was the daughter 
of George W. and Grace Swartz Rupp.

Mrs. McCarty was a clerk at Super Fresh and a member of 
Stephens City United Methodist Church.

She was married to Joseph Andrew "Andy" McCarty, who passed 
away on May 15, 1983.

Surviving are two daughters, Judith M. Stump of Moorefield, 
and Deborah M. Fauver of Winchester, VA and one brother, 
George W. Rupp, Jr. of St. Clairsville, Ohio; one grandchild.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 20, 1999 at 
the Jones Home Chapel with Rev. William R. Withers 
officiating.  Burial was in the Greenhill Cemetery in 
Stephens City, VA.

Pallbearers were Clifford Stump, Brian M. Fauver, Doni 
Croson, William R. Withers, II, Ray Ewing and John Petrie.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Jones 
Funeral Home.

ANDREW A. MACCORKLE
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, August 21, 1996

Andrew Athey "Andy" MacCorkle, age 73, of Greenville, SC and 
a former resident of Arlington, VA, passed away at his 
residence on Monday morning, August 12, 1996.

Mr. MacCorkle was born September 30, 1922, in Old Fields, 
WV.  He was the son of the late William Owen MacCorkle, Sr. 
and Nan Athey MacCorkle.  Besides his parents he was preceded 
in death by one brother, William Carter MacCorkle and another 
brother, William Owen McCorkle of Wheeling, WV, who also 
passed away Monday morning, August 12, 1996.

Surviving are two brothers, Tazwell MacCorkle of Wilmington, 
Delaware and Dwight MacCorkle of Hayesville, North Carolina.

Mr. MacCorkle retired from Eastern Airlines in Washington, 
D.C., was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, and he was a member 
of the Old Presbyterian Meeting House in Alexandria, VA.

Joint funeral services for the two brothers were conducted 
on Thursday at the Elmore-Chambers Funeral Home in Moorefield 
with the Rev. John Grove of Wheeling officiating.  Burial 
followed in the Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield.

Memorial donations may be made to the Albert R. Leatherman 
Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 653, Moorefield, WV.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Elmore 
Funeral Home of Moorefield.

THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, August 21, 1996

William Owen McCorkle, age 71, of Wheeling, WV passed away 
on Monday morning, August 12, 1996, at the Veterans Hospital 
in Aspenwall, Pennsylvania.

Mr. McCorkle was born May 17, 1925 in Old Fields, WV.  He 
was the son of the late, William Owen MacCorkle, Sr. and 
Nan Athey MacCorkle.  Besides his parents, he was also 
preceded in death by two brothers, William Carter MacCorkle 
and Andrew A. MacCorkle, who also passed away Monday morning, 
August 12, 1996.

Surviving are his wife, Sara Edith Bennington McCorkle of 
Wheeling; one son, William O. McCorkle of Belmont, Ohio; 
two daughters, Marlene Sue McCorkle, and Diana "Dee" M. 
McCorkle both of Wheeling; two brothers, Tazwell MacCorkle 
of Wilmington, Delaware, and Dwight MacCorkle of Hayesville, 
North Carolina; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Mr. McCorkle was a retired employee of the Waterford Park 
Race Track, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, 
Wheeling, WV, a Merchant Marine of World War II and a 
member of the D.A.V.

Joint funeral services were conducted for the two brothers 
on Thursday morning at the Elmore-Chambers Funeral Home 
with the Rev. John Grove of Wheeling officiating.  Burial 
was in the Olivet Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Moorefield 
Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 653, Moorefield, WV 26836.

THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, October 23, 1996
Robert "Harold" McDonald, age 75, of Moorefield, WV, passed 
away Monday, October 14, 1996, at the Grant Memorial Hospital 
in Petersburg, WV.

Born August 28, 1921 in Old Fields, WV, he was the son of the 
late Robert Leroy and Lucia (Weese) McDonald.  Besides his 
parents, Mr. McDonald was also preceded in death by three 
brothers.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel (Woerner) McDonald of Moorefield; 
one son, Donald L. McDonald of Wardensville, WV; two sisters, 
Ruby Hines of Petersburg, WV and Wanda Sherman of Moorefield; 
and two grandchildren.

Mr. McDonald was a former Superintendent of the Moorefield Water 
Plant, having worked for the Town of Moorefield for over 21 
years and was a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were conducted at the Elmore-Chambers Funeral 
Home on Thursday with the Rev. Ron Bowyer officiating.  Burial 
was in the Lahmansville Cemetery at Lahmansville, WV.

Pallbearers were Robert McDonald, John McDonald, II, Forrest 
Sherman, Rodney Sherman, Vernon Harman, Orville Shoemaker, 
David Mathias, Leonard Sines.

Honorary Pallbearers were Paul Leatherman, Lyle Weatherholtz, 
Elvy Reel, Paul Sherman, Karl Evans and Robert Southerly.

Sheldon Irving McDonald, age 59, of Junction, WV, passed 
away Tuesday, July 27, 1999 at Winchester Medical Center 
in Winchester, VA.

He was born May 23, 1940 in Romney, WV and was a son of 
Frank W. McDonald, Sr., Romney, and the late Sarah Markwood 
McDonald and his stepmother, Ida Katherine McDonald.

Mr. Mongold was a retied machinist with Danly Machine.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Mary V. (Vetter) 
McDonald, Junction, WV; two sons, Gene McDonald and wife, 
Kathy, Genoa, IL, Sheldon I. McDonald, Jr., Boilingbrook, 
IL; one daughter, Cynthia Flaws and husband, Jeff, 
Plainfield, IL; seven brothers, Frank W. McDonald, Jr. 
and wife Arbutus, Junction, WV, Floyd L. McDonald and 
wife, Lois, Riverside, IL, Lloyd McDonald and wife Vera, 
Darien, IL, Kenny McDonald, Falls Church, VA, Allen 
McDonald, Myrtle Beach, SC, Glenn McDonald and wife, 
Mary, Junction, WV, Warren Doggett and friend Joan, 
Prince George, VA; one sister, Mary K. Keplinger and 
husband Bob, Waco, TX; five grandchildren, Jennifer, 
Kristen, Brian, Ian McDonald and Jordan Flaws; close

A funeral service was held Friday, July 30 at the Shaffer 
Funeral Home in Romney, WV, with Pastor Glenn R. Hamric.  
Interment was in Arnold Cemetery, Junction, WV.

THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, January 26, 2000

Daniel Patrick McGahagan, Jr., age 48 of Moorefield, WV, 
died Monday evening, January 17, 2000 at the Grant Memorial 
Hospital in Petersburg, WV.

Danny was born on November 26, 1951 in Baltimore, MD.  He 
was the son of the late Daniel P. McGahagan and Clara Belle 
Liggett.  In addition to his parents, he is also preceded 
in death by one brother.

Mr. McGahagan was a caregiver and member of the Duffey 
Memorial United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sisters, Bonnie Murphy of Whitehall, MD 
and Michelle Peacock of Moorefield; one brother, Jon Beatty 
of Orlando, FL and his grandparents, Mary Catherine Liggett 
and Bill Liggett, both of Moorefield.

A memorial service was held on Friday, January 21, 2000 at 
the Elmore-Chambers Funeral Home in Moorefield with the 
Rev. Ted Osgood officiating.  Burial was in the Olivet 
Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Elmore-
Chambers Funeral Home.

THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, October 30, 1996
Mary V. McNeill, 89, of Wiley Ford, WV, passed away Monday, 
October 28, 1996 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, MD 
following a long illness.

She was born February 14, 1907 at Milam, WV, a daughter of the 
late Noah and Martha (Simmons) Emswiller.

Mrs. McNeill was preceded in death by her husband James McNeill 
in November of 1976.

Surviving are one son, James, Jr., and wife Margaret McNeill of 
Ridgeley, WV; two daughters, Jean and husband, Denver High of 
Ridgeley, WV and Betty McNeill of Wiley Ford, WV; six 
grandchildren, Deanna, Gregory and Dana High, Teresa Kincaid, 
Ricky and Sharon McNeill; 12 great-grandchildren; and two 
great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 
30, 1996 at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield, WV, with the 
Rev. John Glessner officiating.  Burial was in the Olivet 
Cemetery.

Mrs. McNeill was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist 
Church of Short Gap, WV and was the last member of her immediate 
family.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Fraley 
Funeral Home.

THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, March 24, 1999

Garlene Mallow of Lake Ridge, VA and formerly of Moorefield, 
WV, age 61 passed away on February 27, 1999 at the Fairfax 
Hospital.

Surviving is her husband, Virgil Mallow of Lake Ridge, 
formerly of Petersburg; mother, Effie Fitzwater of 
Moorefield; two daughters, Deborah Leigh of Fredericksburg, 
VA and Brenda Hollar of Stafford, VA; one sister, Maxine 
Culler of Moorefield, WV and one brother, James Fitzwater 
of Moorefield, WV and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 2 at the 
Mountcastle Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Miller 
officiating.  Burial was at Stafford Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis 
Foundation of Virginia, 3805 Cutshaw Ave., Richmond,

THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, July 30, 1997

Forrest L. Marston, age 57, of Baker, WV, passed away 
Monday, July 21, 1997 at Lewistown, PA.

He was born October 18, 1939 in Lost City, WV, the son 
of the late Curtis and Mildred Schell Marston.

He was a retired truck driver and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Surviving is his wife, Peggy G. Marston, whom he married 
August 24, 1979.

Besides his wife he is also survived by three daughters, 
Cindy Shelly and Sharon McNaughton, both of Mt. Joy, PA 
and Lisa Striffler of Harrisburg, PA; two brothers, 
Ronald Marston, Townsend, DE and Larry Marston, Enhaut, 
PA; two sisters, Peggy Moyer, Newark, DE and Janice 
Hack, Elizabeth Town, PA; and seven grandchildren.

A funeral service was conducted Thursday, July 24 at 
Agape Family Fellowship, Baker, WV, with Rev. Dennis 
Moyer officiating.  Burial was in the Ivanhoe Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the 
Loy Funeral Home, Wardensville, WV.

THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, November 18, 1998

Mary A. Martin, age 94, of Grant County Nursing Home, 
formerly of the Trough Route, Moorefield, WV, passed 
away Sunday evening, November 8, 1998, at the Grant 
County Nursing Home in Petersburg, WV.

Born December 27, 1903 in Kessel, WV she was a daughter 
of the late Roy V. and Mary (Eisenhouer) Welton.  Mrs. 
Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. 
Martin in August 1970, one son, four brothers and one 
sister.  She was a member of the Epiphany Catholic Church 
of Moorefield.

Surviving are two sons, Leonard Martin of Moorefield, WV 
and Robert Martin of Annandale, VA; three daughters, 
Violet Wimer of Annandale, VA, Ludie Bensenhaver of Deale, 
MD and Ila Catherine Smith of Martinsburg, WV; nine 
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Fraley 
Funeral Home in Moorefield with Father Claro officiating.  
Burial was in the Olivet Cemetery.  A Rosary was recited 
on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were George Judy, Bill Martin, Jim Martin, 
David Smith, William Martin, and Rick Leisner.

Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Destiny Paige Mathias was stillborn, April 19, 1997 in Allen 
Memorial Hospital in Oberlin, Ohio.

She was the daughter of Scott and Marsha Harris Mathias of 
Lorain, Ohio.

Surviving besides her parents are one sister, Autumn Brooke 
Mathias and grandparents, Glenn and Betsy Mathias, of 
Mathias, WV, Cole and Susan Nichols of Lost River, WV, 
Michael and Gilda Harris of Newport, TN, Sharon Harris of 
Whitesville, WV; great-grandparents, Richard and LaRue 
Dorrell of Terra Alta, WV.

Graveside services will be conducted today at the Cedar Hill 
Cemetery in Mathias with Rev. Harold Barnett officiating.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Grandle 
Funeral Home.

THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, August 28, 1996

Ollie Wise Shipe Mathias, 73, of Bergton, died August 21, 1996 
at Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, where she had been a 
resident since June 4, 1996.

Mrs. Mathias was born February 15, 1923 in Mathias, WV and was 
the daughter of the late John A. and Mabel T. Moyers Shipe.

She was a member of the Mathias Church of the Brethren and a 
substitute teacher for the Rockingham County School System.

On August 6, 1945 she married Stanley S. Mathias who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Sherrie L. Carr of Linville; 
three sisters, Ina Sheets of Nitro, WV, Faye Hare of Baltimore, 
MD, Velda Keller of Lost River; one brother, Arnold Shipe of 
Baltimore, MD; one granddaughter.

The Rev. Harold Barnett conducted a funeral service on Saturday 
at the Mathias Church of the Brethren.  Burial was in the Cedar 
Hill Cemetery.

MARY DASHER MATHIAS
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, September 25, 1996

Mary Dasher Mathias, age 84, of Moorefield passed away 
Thursday evening, September 19, 1996 at the Grant Memorial 
Hospital in Petersburg.

Born February 27, 1912 in Moorefield, WV, she was the daughter 
of the late Manasseh and Daisy (Rodgers) Dasher.  Besides her 
parents, Mrs. Mathias was preceded in death by two sisters and 
four brothers.  One brother survives, Wayne Dasher of Danbury, 
CT.

Mary Dasher Mathias wed John A. Mathias on August 7, 1931.  
They had three sons, David K. Mathias of Old Fields, WV, Thomas 
G. Mathias of Moorefield, WV and Dr. John A. Mathias, Jr. of 
Buchanan, WV, all of who survive.  Also surviving are seven 
grandchildren and one step-grandchild.

Mr. and Mrs. Mathias were among the thirteen graduates of the 
Moorefield High School Class of 1929.  Mrs. Mathias then 
graduated from the Fairmont Business College, became 
secretary to the G. W. McCauley Law Firm.  She was a member 
of Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church for 72 years 
where she belonged to Circle #1 and was a member of the 
Moorefield Handy Extension Homemakers Club.

Funeral services were held at the Duffey Memorial United 
Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Ted Osgood 
officiating.  Burial followed in the Olivet Cemetery in 
Moorefield.

Pallbearers were Paul Leatherman, Warden Hott, Jay Mathias, 
Bob Glorioso, Clyde Grimes, Teddy Garrett and Steve Evans.  
Honorary pallbearers were members of Circle #1 and the Handy 
Extension Homemakers Club.

Memorial donations may be made to the Moorefield High School 
Scholarship Fund, c/o Moorefield High School, 401 North Main 
Street, Moorefield, WV 26836.

OWEN S. MATHIAS
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, April 23, 1997
Owen Samuel "Red" Mathias, age 73 of Wardensville, West 
Virginia died Wednesday, April 16, 1997 in Stephens City, 
Virginia.

Mr. Mathias was born on January 28, 1924 in Mathias, West 
Virginia the son of the late Charles Luther and Clementine 
Cleaver Mathias.  He was owner of the Speed Queen Wash in 
Wardensville and had previously been in shipping/handling 
with Rubbermaid where he retired after 16 years.  He was a 
member of the First Baptist Church in Wardensville, West 
Virginia.  He received a Bachelor's Degree in Science from 
Eastern Tennessee State University and was a veteran of 
World War II having served in the United States Air Force 
achieving the rank of Sergeant.

Mr. Mathias married Bobbie Nell Langston on July 3, 1953 in 
Johnston City, Tennessee.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters Marilyn Holliday 
of Stephens City, VA, Avis Drummond of Lebanon Church, VA; 
two stepchildren, two sisters, Ama Morgan and Audrey Mathias 
both of Oakridge, TN.  Three brothers have preceded him in 
death.

A funeral service was conducted Friday at First Baptist Church 
in Wardensville, WV, with the Reverend John Crisman 
officiating.  Interment was in the Greenfield Cemetery, 
Wardensville, WV.

Pallbearers were Buddy Davis, Robert Wymer, Tim Combs, Frankie 
Combs, Richard Harpine and Charles Sine.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer 
Society, 202 North Washington Street, Winchester, VA 22601.

JAMES DANIEL MAUZY
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, September 10, 1997

James Daniel Mauzy, age 79, of Petersburg, WV, died Sunday, 
August 31, 1997 at Grant Memorial Hospital.

He was born January 14, 1918 in Petersburg, WV and was a son 
of the late Harvey J. and Lena (Feaster) Mauzy.

Twice married, he was preceded in death by Nellie V. (Ours) 
Mauzy, May 4, 1977 and Leatrice (Kimble) Mauzy, May 13, 1991.  
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Mauzy 
and Rev. Carl Mauzy; one sister, Viola Mongold; one 
granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters, Brittany 
and Bethany Mauzy.

Mr. Mauzy was a carpenter and member of the Brake Church 
of the Brethren, Dorcas, WV.  He had been a resident of 
Grant County Nursing Home since June 10, 1997.

Surviving are two sons, Curtis Mauzy of Petersburg, WV and 
Edward Mauzy of Cabins, WV; two daughters, Rosalee Kesner 
and Dottie Ketterman, both of Dorcas, WV; two stepdaughters, 
Ellen Thompson of Petersburg, WV and Debbie Method of Romney, 
WV; three sisters, Ada Thorne of Dorcas, WV, Carrie Bergdoll 
of Augusta, WV and Mary Alice Conrad of Petersburg, WV; four 
brothers, Marvin Mauzy of Alexandria, VA, Raymond Mauzy, 
Ronald Mauzy and Glenn Mauzy all of Dorcas, WV; ten 
grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; ten great-grandchildren; 
and two step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Monday Sept. 2, at the 
Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Craig Howard officiating.  
Interment was in South Branch Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, 
WV.

Memorials may be made to Grant County Nursing Home or charity 
of choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Schaeffer Funeral 
Home, Petersburg, WV.

Elmer Lee Mayhew, age 61, of Moorefield, WV, died Thursday, 
October 10, 1996 at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV.

He was born May 3, 1935, a son of the late Curtis and Della 
May (Reel) Mayhew.  He was also preceded in death by one 
sister and one infant brother.  He is the last member of his 
immediate family.

Surviving are his wife, Hilda F. Fultz Mayhew of Moorefield; 
three sons, Robert Collins, Greenspring, WV, Edgar Mayhew, 
Slanesville, WV, and Elmer Lee Mayhew, Jr., Bayse, VA; two 
stepsons, Gary Fultz, Romney, WV, Billy Fultz, Florid; three 
daughters, Delores Smith, Barbara Luttrell, both of 
Moorefield, WV, Robin Andes, Broadway, VA; and 17 grandchildren.

A funeral service was conducted Oct. 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the 
Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV, with the Rev. Norman Landis 
officiating.  Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney, WV.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Shaffer 
Funeral Home in Romney, WV.

LEONARD J. MAZALEWSKI
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, March 17, 1999

Leonard Joseph Mazalewski, age 68, of Baker, WV, passed 
away Sunday, March 7, 1999 at the Grant Memorial Hospital 
in Petersburg, WV.

He was born to the late Joseph and Rose (Deci) Mazalewski 
on January 2, 1931 in Plymouth, PA.  He was also preceded 
in death by one brother.

Mr. Mazalewski served in the United States Army, had been 
an operator of a Metro Train for DC Transit, and was a 
member of the Epiphany Catholic Church and the Knights of 
Columbus in Kensington, MD.

Surviving are his wife, Anna (Weese) Mazalewski; one 
daughter, Sheila A. Marshall, her husband, Thomas and 
their daughter Amanda, all of Capon Bridge; one sister,

Born June 11, 1940 in Petersburg, WV he was the son of 
the late Merl H. Michael and Flossie (Wolfe) Michael.

Preceded in death in addition to his parents is one 
brother, William Neil Michael in 1945.

Ray was a bookkeeper for Potomac Engineering until 1992.  
He was office clerk for his brother, Gene G. Michael 
Nationwide Insurance Agency in Petersburg and was 
scorekeeper for Petersburg High School basketball games 
and Little League for several years.  He was a member of 
the Main Street United Methodist Church and Treasurer of 
Independent Order of Odd Fellows 408, Petersburg, WV and 
a member of Burlington United Methodist Family Services 
Auxiliary.

Surviving is his wife, Brenda (Fulk) Michael, whom he 
married on May 25, 1985; one sister, Gail and husband, 
Calvin Rohrbaugh of Shanks, WV; five brothers, Darwin and 
wife Phyllis Michael; Carroll and wife, Joan Michael; Gene 
and wife, Dottie Michael; Tracy Michael, all of Petersburg 
and Harold and wife, Patti Michael of Moorefield and several 
nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Saturday at the Main Street 
United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Wildman 
officiating.  Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, 
Petersburg, WV.

Tracy A. Michael, age 61, of Petersburg, WV, died Tuesday, 
April 6, 1999 at his home.  Born January 2, 1938 in 
Petersburg, he was the son of the late Merl H. and 
Flossie Wolfe Michael.

He was preceded in addition to his parents, by two 
brothers, William Neil Michael in 1945 and Ray E. 
Michael on March 12, 1999.

Mr. Michael loved the people he worked with.  He was a 
faithful employee at the Grant County Courthouse for 
twelve years.  Tracy also was an employee of the City of 
Petersburg for several years.  He was a lifelong member 
of the Main Street United Methodist Church and a member 
of the following:  the Petersburg Lions Club, Dorcas 
Ruritans, the Petersburg IOOF Lodge No. 408 and Burlington 
United Methodist Family Services, Inc. Auxiliary.

He worked with the Petersburg Little League Baseball 
program in the beginning and continued for 40 years 
for the youth of Grant County.

Surviving are one sister, Gail Michael Rohrbaugh and 
husband, Calvin "Sparky" Rohrbaugh of Shanks, WV; four 
brothers, M. Darwin Michael and wife, Phyllis Keller 
Michael of Petersburg, WV; Carroll N. Michael and wife, 
Joan Pratt Michael of Petersburg, WV; Gene G. Michael 
and wife, Dorothy Vance Michael of Petersburg, WV; 
Harold K. Michael and wife Patricia Burns Michael of 
Moorefield, WV; two aunts, Norma Michael Combs of 
Cabins, WV; Alice Wolfe Kessel of Williamsport, WV 
and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 9 at the 
Main Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. John 
Wildman officiating.  Interment was in the Maple Hill 
Cemetery in Petersburg, WV.

Born March 29, 1912, she was the daughter of the late John 
William and Ada Miller Donaven and was a lifelong resident of 
Wardensville, WV.

Surviving are two sons, Robert A. Miller of Sterling, VA and 
Andy Miller of Wardensville, WV; three daughters, Shirley 
Lafollate of Sterling, VA; Betty Miller Brill of Wardensville, 
WV; and Ronda Kells of Tujunga, CA; two grandchildren whom 
she raised, Tracy (Scotty) Miller and Shelly Bregg; 14 
grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded 
in death by her husband, Howard A. Miller on April 21, 1970.

Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith.

Funeral services were held in the Loy Funeral Home on Sunday, 
April 14 with the Rev. Dave Garns officiating.  Burial was in 
the Asbury Cemetery in Baker, WV.

in Hardy County, WV, she was a daughter of the late Marcellus 
and Gertrude (Mongold) Runions.  She was preceded in death by 
her husband, Joseph E. Miller in March 1964.  She was preceded 
in death by one son, three sisters, four brothers, three 
grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson.

Surviving is one son, Tommy Miller of Romney, WV; five 
daughters, Helen Bierley and Cornelia Miller of Moorefield; 
Trudy Whiteman of Romney; Gladys Sherman of Martinsburg, WV 
and Peggy Boblits of Baltimore, MD; nineteen grandchildren; 
thirteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, December 16,

Walter S. "Buck" Miller, age 76, of Moorefield, WV, died 
Sunday, October 5, 1997 at Winchester Medical Center 
following a long illness.

He was born July 1, 1921 in Hardy County, WV, a son of 
the late Elmer and Mary Susan (Schell) Miller.

He was retired from the WV Department of Highways, a 
member of the Methodist Church, and US Army Air Force 
Veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-five years, Roxie "Marze" 
Miller; four sons, James Miller of Moorefield, WV, Benny 
Miller of Rig, WV, Gregory Miller of Winchester, VA and 
Timothy Miller of Louisa, VA; two daughters, Kay Hart 
of Winchester, VA and Ruth Mott of Dorcas, WV; one 
brother, Tom Miller of Moorefield, WV; three sisters, 
Gladys Burgess of Keyser, WV, Vada Campbell of 
Buckhannon, WV and Elizabeth Simon of Moorefield, 
WV; fourteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and one granddaughter preceded him in death.

The body was cremated and memorial services were conducted 
at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 11 at the Moorefield Church of 
the Brethren with Revs. Mel and Lisa Fink officiating.

The funeral for Lester Cletus Miller, 80, of Penn Laird, was 
held Friday at the New Dale Church of the Brethren near Lost 
River.  Officiating were Rev. Ernest Halterman and Mr. Ward 
Halterman.  Burial was in the New Dale Cemetery.

Mr. Miller died Tuesday, July 23, 1996, at Westview Manor in 
Timberville, where he had been a resident for three weeks.

He was born October 29, 1915 in Hardy County, WV, and was the 
son of the late Grover C. and Cora Keller Miller.

He moved to Virginia in the 1950's.  He served in the Army 
during WWII.  He was a member of the New Dale Church of the 
Brethren.  He retired from Walker Manufacturing in 1978.

On August 12, 1950 he married the former Ethel Nedine Whetzel 
who died January 14, 1994.

Surviving are one stepdaughter, Ruby Crider of Broadway; two 
sisters, Thelma Wolfe of Lost River, WV, Lucy Whittington of 
Winchester; one brother, Kirby Miller of Cumberland, MD; and a 
number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tommy Miller and 
Conndy Miller.

Mr. Miller was a retired farmer, a member of the Lost River 
United Methodist Church and a lifelong resident of WV.

WV; three daughters, Helen Sions, Old Fields, WV, Janet 
Richardson, Wardensville, WV and Frances M. Smith, Mathias,

Wardensville, WV and Arlie Wood of Winchester, VA;

THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, April 10, 1996

Arletta Mae Mongold, 54, of Mathias, died Saturday, April 6, 
1996 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.  She had been in 
failing health for a number of months.

Mrs. Mongold was born March 5, 1942 in Petersburg, WV, and 
was the daughter of Odie Whetzel Mongold of Petersburg and 
the late William John Mongold.

She had worked a number of years at H. D. Lee Inc. in 
Broadway and the last number of years she did baby sitting.  
She was a member of the Mathias Assembly of God Church and 
attended the Mathias Pentecostal Church.

On October 20, 1961 she married George William Mongold who 
died April 12, 1992.

Surviving besides her mother are two sons, Charles W. and 
George D. Mongold, both of Mathias; one step-daughter, 
Madeline Carr of Bergton; two brothers, Donald Mongold of 
Petersburg, WV; two sisters, Naomi Ketterman of Petersburg 
and Geraldine Long of Maysville; three grandchildren; and 
two step-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Tuesday at the Mathias Assembly 
of God Church by the Pastors David Coyle and Arlena Mongold.  
Burial was in the Mongold Family Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Grandle 
Funeral Home in Broadway.

Mr. Robert William Mongold, 39, Keys Chapel Road, Union 
Bridge died on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Frederick Memorial 
Hospital.

Born in Tacoma Park, on March 27, 1958, he was the son of 
Carol Kenney Mongold Parrish, of Monrovia, and the late 
Junior Myers Mongold; stepson of Willard D. Parrish.

Mr. Mongold worked for most of his life as a carpenter and 
was employed with the Chesky Construction Company of 
Ijamsville.  He was a graduate of the Linganore High 
School Class of 1977.

Surviving him besides his mother and stepfather are: 
two brothers, Kenneth M. Mongold of Wheaton, James D. 
Mongold of Frederick, two half brothers, Donald Mongold 
of Westminster, Douglas Mongold of Moorefield, WV, and 
two stepbrothers, Dale Parrish of Monrovia and Bill 
Parrish of Prince Frederick, maternal grandmother, 
Dorothy C. Kenney of Monrovia and several aunts, 
uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral was held at the Keeney and Basford Funeral 
Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick with private 
interment in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

The funeral for Dayton McCullen Mongold, 78 of John Siever 
Road, New Market was held on Saturday at Mathias Church of

The service was conducted by the Revs. David Burrough and 
Nelson Pettit and Pastor Guy Ferrell.

Mr. Mongold died March 13, 1996 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 22, 1917 in Mathias, WV and was a son of the 
late John and Cora Sine Mongold.

He had worked at Foltz Meat Processing in Edinburg and was a 
member of Mathias Church of the Brethren.

On May 9, 1939 he married Edith Gay Ritchie, was died Sept. 
28, 1992.

Surviving are four sons, Ray, Gene, Buddy and Carl Mongold, 
all of Broadway; two daughters. Geneva Dove and Loretta Miller, 
both of Broadway; a brother, Russell Mongold, Timberville; 
two sisters, Fannie Mongold, Timberville and Grace See, Lost 
City, WV; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

of the late Branson and Effie Hammon Parker.

Mrs. Mongold was a lifelong resident of Baker, a housewife 
and a member of the Salem Mennonite Church, Baker, WV.

She is survived by her husband, Charles L. Mongold, whom she 
married April 24, 1946.

Also surviving are two daughters, Hilda Wilkins of Baker, 
WV and Rosie Lohr of Broadway, VA; four sons, Cletis Mongold, 
Mathias, WV, Paul Mongold and Steve Mongold, both of Baker, 
WV, Leon Mongold, College Park, MD; one adopted son, Steve 
Coffman of Broadway, VA; two grandchildren whom she raised, 
Pattie Kelle and Jeremy Mongold, both of Baker, WV; three 
brothers, Wilber Parker and Ottis Parker, both of 
Timberville, VA, and Bill Parker of Wardensville, WV; 
six sisters, Goldie Perkins, Esther Fink, Rene Deavers, 
all of Timberville, VA, Audrey May of Waynesboro, VA,
Maude Hartley of Stephens City, VA and Julia Voice of 
Yellow Springs, WV; twelve grandchildren; and nine great-
grandchildren.

Church, Baker, WV, with the Rev. Harold Emswiller and Rev. 
Arland Schrock officiating.  Burial was in the Salem 
Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Born July 14, 1928 in Hardy Co., WV, she was a daughter 
of the late John and Rhonda (Whetzel) Helmick.  She was 
preceded in death by her husband John B. Mongold in November 
1990 and one brother.

Surviving is one brother, William D. Helmick of Harrisonburg, 
VA; one sister, Mary Dean of Moorefield, WV and several 
nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday at the Fraley 
Funeral Home in Moorefield with the Rev. Laurean R. Smith 
officiating.  Burial followed in the Olivet Cemetery.

Eleanore Crippen Moomau, age 88, of Petersburg, WV, died on 
Sunday, April 20, 1997, at the Grant County Nursing Home.

Born February 5, 1909 at Roaring Branch, PA, she was the 
daughter of the late Amos and Pearl (King) Crippen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Moomau, 
Feb. 9, 1980.

Mrs. Moomau attended Shenandoah College and Conservatory of 
Music, Winchester, VA.  She graduated from Rochester General 
Hospital School of Nursing.  She did post graduate work at the 
Manhattan Eye and Ear Hospital, New York City, was Grant County 
Director of the Department of Health and Human Resources for 24 
years, was a chartered member of the Petersburg BPW club and 
Petersburg Garden Club, chartered member of the Valley View 
Golf Course, member of the South Branch Valley Chapter 
Daughters of the American Revolution and past Matron and 
50 year member of the Moorefield Order of Eastern Star, 
Chapter 102.  She was an ordained Elder of the Petersburg 
Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are one brother, William Crippen of Holiday, Florida; 
two foster children, Janet Barr of Petersburg, WV and Melvin 
Cullers of Aurora, WV; four foster grandchildren; and several 
nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the 
Petersburg Presbyterian Church with Rev. Donald G. Scofield 
and Rev. Ray Rodeheaver officiating.  Interment was in Maple 
Hill Cemetery, Petersburg, WV.  Moorefield Order of Eastern 
Star conducted services at the funeral home on Tuesday evening.

Born October 11, 1915 in Seneca Rocks, WV, she was the 
daughter of the late Charles and Mary Ester (Full) Rexroad.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Moore 
on October 6, 1968.  Also by an infant daughter, Juanita 
Moore, a granddaughter, Tina Moore; two brothers, Martin 
and Johnny Rexroad.

Mrs. Moore and her husband owned and operated the Rexroad 
farm in Maysville and she continued after her husband's 
death in 1968.  She attended the Lighthouse Community 
Church at Maysville, WV.

Surviving are one son, Robert L. Moore of Maysville, WV; 
one grandson, William L. Moore of Harpers Ferry, WV; one 
great-grandson, Tyler M. Moore of Harpers Ferry, WV; four 
step-grandchildren, Sandy Ratcliff of Moorefield, WV; 
Denise Ellifritz and Scott Martin of New Creek, WV and 
Tina Gry of NC; 12 step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Sunday at the Lighthouse 
Community Church with the Rev. Joseph Eversole officiating.

John Hull Morrison, Jr., age 79, of Maysville, WV, died 
Sunday, August 3, 1997 at Grant County Nursing Home, 
Petersburg, WV, where he had been a patient since December 
26, 1996.

Born May 7, 1918 at Lexington, VA, he was the son of the 
late John H. Morrison, Sr. and Mamie (Lam) Morrison.

Mr. Morrison was preceded in death by his first wife, 
Louise (Monroe) Morrison on April 20, 1963.  He was also 
preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kelly Morrison and 
one sister, Marian Lutz.

Mr. Morrison owned and operated Vacuum Services, Inc. in 
Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.  He was a US Navy 
Veteran of World War II and a member of Lahmansville 
United Methodist Church.

Surviving is his wife, Kathryn (Painter) Porter Morrison.  
They were united in marriage on June 21, 1975.

Also surviving are one son, John H. Morrison, III of 
Winchester, VA; two stepsons, Larry M. Porter and Mark S. 
Porter, both of Maysville, WV; one daughter, Susan Morrison 
of Alexandria, VA; one stepdaughter, Ellen Rexrode of 
Maysville, WV; two sisters, Dorothy Schoenhut of Durham, 
SC and Ruth Leech of Lexington, VA; one granddaughter, 
Rebecca Morrison; seven step-grandchildren; and four 
step-great-grandchildren.

and Rev. George Widmyer officiating.  Graveside services 
and interment was Friday at Arlington National Cemetery,

Clifton (Cliff) E. Moyer of Marietta, Ohio died July 9, 
1999 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 7, 1932 at Mathias, WV the son of the late 
Walter L. and Pearl L. See Moyer.

He was a US Air Force Veteran during the Korean Conflict, 
serving three years in the Caribbean Air Command at Albrook, 
A.F.B., Panama and Ramey A.F.B., Puerto Rico.

He was a graduate of West Virginia University in 1959 with a 
B.S. in Forestry and Wildlife Management.  He also completed 
some graduate work at the University of Michigan.

His 41-year career with the United States Forest Service 
began in Monterey CA on the King City District and 
Supervisors office in Santa Barbara.  He was subsequently 
transferred to the Weaverville District Shasta-Trinity 
National Forest, then to South Lake Tahoe, Eldorado 
National Forest.  His tour of duty also included a 
transfer to the Big Bar District of the Trinity National 
Forest.  The last 21 years of his career were spent on 
the Wayne-Hoosier National Forest on the Athens and 
Marietta Districts in Ohio.  He retired in January 1998.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, the former Sharon 
Kline of Wardensville; one son, Bryan W. Moyer of Marietta, 
Ohio; beloved granddaughter, Shannon C. Moyer of Delaware, 
Ohio; five sisters and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Orlando 
(Lona) Wilkins, Mathias, WV, Mr. and Mrs. Garner (Wanda) 
Moyer of Singers Glen, VA, Mr. and Mrs. Gladstone 
(Catherine) Smith, Baker WV, Mr. and Mrs. Harry (Loretta) 
Keplinger, Broadway, VA, and Mrs. Naomi Higgs, 
Harrisonburg, VA.  He is survived by two sisters-in-law, 
Ruby Moyer and Pauline Moyer; his mother-in-law, Garnet L. 
Kline, Wardensville, WV; two sisters-in-law and their 
husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Donna (Maxine) McDonald, 
Wardensville and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth (Kathy) Miller, 
Conroe, Texas; one brother-in-law, Tim Kline of 
Wardensville and many special nieces, nephews and 
great-nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death 
by one son, Clifton D. Moyer, II, three brothers, 
Ora L., Dewey G. and Walter L. Moyer.

Throughout the years Cliff was an avid sportsman.  
He was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association, 
the National Wild Turkey Federation, and the National 
Wildlife Society.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Jenkins 
Chapel United Methodist Church in Mathias, WV with Wayne 
Miller officiating.  Burial was in the Greenfield 
Cemetery, Wardensville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be 
made to The Plains United Methodist Church, The Plains, 
Ohio, or Jenkins Chapel United Methodist Church, Mathias, WV.

Services were conducted by the Grandle Funeral Home in 
Broadway, VA.

THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, July 7, 1999

Tommie W. Moyers, age 69, of Maysville, WV, died Friday, 
July 9, 1999 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV 
after a brief illness.

Born March 4, 1930 in Cabins, WV, he was a son of the late 
Alfred V. and Laura (Goldizen) Moyers.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents, by an 
infant great-grandson, Courtney Blake Hedrick; one brother, 
John F. Moyers; nine sisters; infant Beulah Moyers and 
infant Zera Moyers; Dorothy VanMeter, Sarah Wolford, 
Stella Ray, Ella Staffer, Arbutus Evans, Nellie Rohrbaugh 
and Rhoda Dolly.

Mr. Moyers was a retired heavy equipment operator for 
Alleghany Mining Co. and a US Army Veteran of World War 
II.  He was a member of Lighthouse Community Church, 
Maysville, WV.

Surviving is his wife, whom he married on February 10, 
1950, Verda E. (Ratcliff) Moyers; one daughter, Judy A. 
Rohrbaugh and husband, Gerald of Petersburg, WV; three 
grandchildren, Lisa (Rohrbaugh) Delawder of Old Fields, 
WV; Bradley S. Rohrbaugh of Anmoore, WV and Wesley A. 
Rohrbaugh of Petersburg, WV; five great-grandchildren, 
Samantha Hedrick, Tawnee Bowman, Brittany White, Stephen 
Rohrbaugh and Kirklin Delawder; one brother, Lawnie 
Moyers, a resident of Nella's Nursing Home, Elkins, WV; 
three sisters, Effie Wolford, a resident of Grant County 
Nursing Home, Petersburg; Angie Hatcher and Orpha Staffer 
of Petersburg, WV.

Funeral services were held at the Lighthouse Community 
Church in Maysville, WV with the Rev. Joseph Eversole 
officiating.  Interment was in South Branch Valley 
Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, WV.  Memorials may be 
made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the 
Schaeffer Funeral Home.

THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, August 13, 1997

William Harrison "Bill" Moyers, age 62, of Vilas, North 
Carolina, died Monday, August 4, at Watauga Medical Center 
in Boone, North Carolina.

He was born December 30, 1934, in Moorefield, West Virginia, 
to the late Homer and Bertie Whetzel Moyers.  He served in 
the U.S. Army and was a former truck driver for United Van 
Lines in Roanoke, Virginia.  He was a member of Forest Grove 
Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Allen Moyers of the home; 
two daughters, Mrs. Linda Farris and husband, Paul of Vinton, 
Virginia and Ms. Kathy Dogan of Roanoke, Virginia; one son, 
Bill Moyers, Jr. of Roanoke; one granddaughter, Nichole Relf; 
and one grandson, Adam Relf, both of Roanoke.  He was preceded 
in death by a son, Robert Moyers.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, August 9, at 
Forest Grove Baptist Church in Vilas with Rev. Wynn Greer 
officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.

Hampton Funeral Service in Boone was in charge of the 
arrangements.
