DORA E. GAPP
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, March 17, 1999

Dora E. Gapp, age 85 of Jackson Avenue, passed away 
Wednesday, March 10, 1999 at the Winchester Medical 
Center in Winchester, VA.  Born July 27, 1913 in 
Pendleton Co., WV she was a daughter of the late J. 
Branson and Bessie (Reel) Watts.  She was preceded in 
death by her husband, Matthew F. Gapp in November 1978, 
six brothers and three sisters also preceded her in 
death.  She was a retired cook for the Hardy County 
Board of Education and was a member of the Epiphany 
Catholic Church.

Surviving are two sons, Matthew E. Gapp and C. Steve 
Gapp of Moorefield, WV; one daughter, Patsy D. Hudson 
of Williamsport, MD; two brothers, Minor Watts and Jay 
B. Watts of Augusta, WV; two sisters, Fern Rohrbaugh of 
Fairfax, VA and Violet Barlow of Atlanta, GA; twelve 
grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, 
March 13, 1999 at the Epiphany Catholic Church near 
Moorefield with Father Jim Creeden officiating.  
Burial followed at the Olive Cemetery in Moorefield.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Stephen Hudson, Michael 
Hudson, Douglas Hudson, Anthony Gibson, Stephen Gapp 
and Matthew V. Gapp.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the 
Fraley Funeral Home.

CHARLES HINEGARDNER GARRETT, SR.
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, December 22, 1999

The funeral service for Charles Hinegardner Garrett, Sr., 
age 73, of Lost City, WV was held on Wednesday at the 
Ivanhoe Presbyterian Church in Lost City, WV.  Officiating 
was the Rev. John Douglas Sterrett, III.  Burial was in the 
Laurel Hill Cemetery in Lost City.

Mr. Garrett died December 12, 1999 at Johnson's Home for the 
Elderly in Harrisonburg, VA.

He was born August 31, 1926 in Lost City and was a son of 
the late Charles Arthur and Nettie Hinegardner Garrett.

He served in the U.S. Army during the 1950's.  He was a 
welder for Pipeliner's Local Union #798 and a farmer.  He 
was a member of Ivanhoe Presbyterian Church.

On October 16, 1944 he married the former Nora Geraldine 
McKeever, who died September 19, 1995.

Surviving are one daughter, Allaiana M. Garrett of Lost 
City; one son, Charles H. Garrett, Jr. of Pennsylvania; 
two grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to 
the Ivanhoe Presbyterian Church, Lost City, WV 26810.

The casket will be closed.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Grandle 
Funeral Home.

DELBERT L. "BUDDY" GEORGE
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, November 18, 1998

Delbert L. "Buddy" George, age 68 of Purgitsville, passed 
away Friday evening, November 13, 1998 at the Hampshire 
Memorial Hospital in Romney, WV.  Born June 19, 1930 in 
Hampshire County, WV he was a son of the late Willie & 
Daisy (Brown) George.  He was preceded in death by one 
son and was a member of the White Pine Church of the 
Brethren.  He was a retired salesman from Hardman's 
Hardware in Moorefield.

Surviving is his wife, Bonnie (Kesner) George; two sons, 
Allen George and Delmas George of Purgitsville; three 
daughters, Susan Riggleman of Baker, WV; Sandra Alt of Old 
Fields, WV; Tena White of Moorefield, WV; one brother, 
Thurman George of Winchester, VA; two sisters, Dale Hefner 
of Moorefield, WV and Pearl Evans of Maysville, WV; 10 
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday at the Fraley 
Funeral Home with Rev. Laurean R. Smith officiating.  
Burial followed at the Old Pine Cemetery in Purgitsville, WV.

Pallbearers were Artie Stickley, Raymond Hefner, Robert 
Hefner, Robert Southerly, Garland Combs and Winnie Miller.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Fraley 
Funeral Home.

BESSIE M. GIBBS
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, September 24, 1997

Bessie M. Gibbs, age 87 of Wardensville, passed away on 
Friday, September 19, 1997 at her home.

She was born on June 14, 1910 in Fraght, KY daughter of 
the late Sherman and Marthy Lammon Murray.

She was married to the late Steve L. Gibbs who passed 
away December 22, 1990.

Surviving are three sons, Frank and Billy Gibbs, both of 
Wardensville and Andy Gibbs of Baltimore, MD; three 
daughters, Lois Wolfe and Jewell Jacobs, both of 
Wardensville and Jolia Rothgeb of Augusta, WV; one 
brother, Otis Murray of Jellico, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren 
and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was a housewife and a member of the Church of God.

Services were held on September 22, 1997 at the Loy Funeral 
Home in Wardensville with Rev. Henry Dunsmore officiating.  
Interment was in the Greenfield Cemetery in Wardensville, WV.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Loy 
Funeral Home.

BOYD S. GODLOVE, JR.
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, April 23, 1997
Boyd Scott "Pete" Godlove, Jr., 72, of 853 Summitt Ave., 
Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 13, 1997, at Washington County 
Hospital.

Born May 13, 1924, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late 
Boyd Scott Godlove, Sr. and Helen Leota Dorsey Godlove.

He was employed by Iron Workers Union Local 5.

He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Hagerstown Lodge 
217 A.F. & A.M. and Board of Policy-Liberty Lobby.

He is survived by one sister, Nancy G. Ebersole of York Haven, 
PA; three nieces; four nephews; 23 grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Edward W. Godlove.

Services were Wednesday at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 
Hagerstown, with the Rev. Louis L. Emerick officiating.  
Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

A Masonic memorial service was conducted at the funeral home 
by Hagerstown Lodge 217.

JOSEPH R. GODLOVE
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, October 30, 1996
Joseph Raymond "Doke" Godlove, 80, of 1149 Cedar Hill Road, 
Clearbrook, died Thursday at a local nursing home.

The funeral was conducted Saturday at the Omps Funeral Home in 
Winchester by the Rev. Constance Cather Martin.  Burial was in 
the Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Mr. Godlove was born October 13, 1916, in Wardensville, WV son 
of the late Raymond Lee and Grace Stottlemyer Godlove.  He was 
a plumber and worked for Mervil Adams Plumbing and Heating and 
Connie I. Renner and retired from Renner Plumbing and Heating.  
He had worked for Blandy Experimental Farm in Clarke County.  
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and recipient of 
the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Ribbon, 
European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and Victory 
Ribbon.  He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 
2123 and Galilee Christian Church.  He was the husband of 
the late Louise Dorsey Godlove.

Surviving are his wife, Marie Dellinger Crider Godlove; two 
daughters, Carolyn Glaize and Jessie Sullivan, both of Fredrick 
County; two brothers, Kenneth H. Godlove and Junior R. Godlove, 
both of Fredrick County and Mabel Sheets of Bunker Hill, WV; 
one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers were Lloyd Renner, James Dorsey, Hugh Campbell, 
Walter McIntosh, Charles Webber and Murphy Leake.

Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Godlove, Michael Godlove, 
Russell Godlove, Jess Godlove and Roy Sheets, Jr.

REV. JOHN ALLEN GOLDIZEN, SR. 
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, May 15, 1996

Rev. John Allen Goldizen, Sr., age 61 of Medley, WV, died 
Monday, May 6, 1996 at Grant Memorial Hospital.

Born June 18, 1934 in Jordan Run, WV, he was the son of the 
late Rev. G. Lester and Dora (Evans) Goldizen.

Preceded in death besides his parents, is one brother, Virgil 
Goldizen.

Rev. Goldizen was a licensed minister with the Assemblies of 
God. For the past 19 years he was Pastor of Rig Assembly of 
God Church, Rig, WV.  He was a graduate of Petersburg High 
School Class of 1953.  He was a farmer and avid hunter and 
was a member of the local Union 70 International Brotherhood 
Electrical Workers (IBEW), Fairfax, VA.

Surviving is his wife, Carole (Stallings) Goldizen.  They were 
united in marriage on June 30, 1955.  Also surviving are two 
sons, John A. Goldizen, Jr. of Bunker Hill, WV and Steven A. 
Goldizen of Maysville, WV; one daughter, Teresa (Goldizen) 
Pennington of Burlington, KY; one brother, Reginald L. 
Goldizen of Medley, WV; one sister, Pauline Klienheltzer, 
Louisville, KY; five grandchildren, Christopher S. Goldizen, 
Gavin A. T. Goldizen, Megan M. Goldizen, Brant Pennington, 
Ryan Pennington; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday at the Rig Assembly of 
God Church with the Rev. Gordon Hensley and Rev. Kenneth 
Phares officiating.  Burial was in the Lahmansville Cemetery, 
Lahmansville, WV.

Memorials may be made to the Rig Assembly of God Church, HC

MARVIN DENVER "SONNY" GRAHAM
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, November 18, 1998

Marvin Denver "Sonny" Graham, age 54 of Romney, WV passed 
away on Nov. 17, 1998 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

Mr. Graham was born April 4, 1944 in Romney, WV the son of 
the late Lester W. and Virginia E. "Peg" (Heavener) Graham.

He was a Superintendent of Maintenance for the City of 
Romney, WV; a member of the Sons of the American Legion 
Hampshire Post #91; Social member of the VFW Wappoccoma 
Post #1101 and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1371.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Georgianna (Kline) 
Graham, Romney, WV; one stepson, David E. Crites, 
Moorefield, WV; one daughter, LaDonna Runion, Augusta, 
WV; two brothers, Lester E. Graham, Baltimore, MD and 
Terry A. Graham, Romney, WV; two sisters, Virginia L. 
Graham and Vickie L. Walls, of Romney, WV; six 
grandchildren, Tommy D. Crites, Ft. Polk, LA, Jermiah 
Jayson Crites and Keanna Lynn Crites of Moorefield, WV; 
Jessie Rae Crites of Alva, FL and Katrina Lee Ann 
Stickley and LaShona Dean Runion of Augusta, WV.

Services were held on Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998 at the 
Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney, WV with Rev. Fred 
Tomlinson officiating.

Mr. Graham's body was cremated.

The family requests that memorials take the form of 
donations to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the 
Shaffer Funeral Home.

LILLIE MAUDE GROVES
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, September 3, 1997
Lillie Maude Groves, age 54, of Moorefield, WV passed away 
Monday morning August 25, 1997 at the Grant Memorial Hospital 
in Petersburg, WV following a long illness.  She was born 
June 19, 1943.

Surviving are seven sons, Ronnie Richards of Lizemores, WV; 
Donnie Burner, Joseph Hose, Leo Hose, Douglas Hose and Bryan 
Hose, all of Moorefield and Frances Turner of Keyser, WV; 
one daughter, Kathy Hose of Harrisonburg, VA; and seven 
grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Thursday at the Mt. Olive 
Lutheran Church in Peru, WV with Seminarian Pat Tharp 
officiating.  Ms. Groves donated her body to the WVU 
Human Gift Registry in Morgantown.

THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, October 9, 1996

Edwin Glover Gunter, age 78, of Wingina, Virginia, died 
Wednesday, October 2, 1996, in Lynchburg General Hospital 
in Lynchburg, VA.

Born in Nelson County, VA, on November 5, 1917, he was a 
son of the late Robert W. Gunter and Elizabeth Caroll Gunter.  
He attended Maple Grove Pentecostal Church in Buckingham Co., 
VA, and was a retired mechanic with the Metro Transit Authority 
in Washington, D.C.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, 
Lola Gunter and Grace Gunter; three brothers, Robert L. Gunter, 
Lacy D. Gunter and Woodrow G. Gunter.

Survivors include three sons, Dallas E. Gunter of Bryans Road, 
MD, Rod W. Gunter of Moorefield, WV; Keith B. Gunter, Freemont, 
CA; four daughters, Barbara G. Peregoy, York, PA, Linda A. 
Gunter of Springfield, VA, Francis G. Lantz and Sandy Clarke 
of Wingina; four sisters, Carro G. Ragland of Lynchburg, 
Sadie F. Harlow of Vera Beach, FL, Hazel G. Wright of Silver 
Spring, MD and Wilma G. Kidd of Culpeper, VA.

A graveside service was held Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Trinity 
Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD with Rev. Edward Baker 
officiating.

The family suggests that those wishing to make memorial 
contributions consider the Nelson County Squad at Rt. 1, 
Faber, Virginia 22938.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the 
Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel of Lovingston, VA.

JOHN R. GUTHRIE
THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, March 20, 1996

John Robert Lee Guthrie, 82, Broadway, died Sunday, March 10, 
1996, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

Mr. Guthrie was born Jan. 15, 1914, in Milam, WV, and was a 
son of the late John Balum and Mary Jane Turner Guthrie.

He was a retired carpenter for Neff and Myers Development in 
Timberville and did farming work.  He was a member of Bethel 
Church of the Brethren in Keezletown.

On Dec. 19, 1934, he married the former Nellie Jane Michell, 
who survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Naomi W. Bare, Fulks Run, 
and Mary Grace Frye, Harrisonburg; two sons, John D. Sites and 
Donald L. Guthrie, both of Broadway; one brother, Thomas Andrew 
Jackson Guthrie, St. Petersburg, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 
great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Charles "Chip" Leatherman conducted the funeral on 
Wednesday at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.  Burial 
was in Trissels Mennonite Church Cemetery near Broadway.

Memorial donations may be made to the Broadway Emergency Squad, 
PO Box 666, Broadway, VA 22815 or the Bethel Church of the 
Brethren, Keezletown Men's Fellowship, in care of Pastor Don 
Guthrie, Route 2, Box 34, Broadway.
