Will of David Keas: 1817 Rutherford Co Tennessee

In the name of God, amen. I David Keas, being in declining state of 
health, but of sound mind and memory, thanks be to God for his long and 
repeated mercies to me and knowing that my destination is drawing near, do 
make and ordain this my last will and testament vis -I give my soul to God 
who gave it and my body to the earth, dust to dust, not doubting that I 
shall receive the same again by the power of almighty God, and as touching 
such worldly estate as I am blest with in this world, I will and dispose 
of in the following manner and form - vis- item - I will and give and 
bequeath to my beloved wife Kitty Keas all my household furniture and 
kitchen furniture, also three head of horses, that is to say - my bay 
horse, one three year old filly, and one yearling colt, also four cows and 
calves she to have her choice of my stock of cattle, also all my stock of 
hogs, also ten head of sheep, the choice of my stock, also all the stock 
of provisions now on hand for the support of the family , also two plows, 
one poling axe, two weeding hoes, and all the gearing belonging to the 
plows, also I allow my wife Kitty Keas to have one hundred and fifty 
dollars and her to put it to the use of schooling my two youngest 
children, namely my son Erasmus S Keas and Margaret T Keas - principally 
my son, I wish him to be made a good English scholar. Also her side saddle 
to have and to hold the above articles during her life or widowhood - then 
to be equally divided -share and share alike among my children hereafter 
named - item - it is my will and I order that all the balance of my estate 
including all stock of everykind and all debts due me and every other 
species of property belonging to my estate not heretofore willed, be sold 
as soon as convenient after my decease on such credit as my executer may 
think best and such monies arising from my estate aforesaid after all my 
just debts are paid, the remainder part to be equally divided share and 
share alike among my children hereafter named that is to say, Harriet M 
Keas, Elizabeth C Keas, Thizza C Keas, May T Keas, Erasmus G Keas and 
Margaret T Keas item- it is my will and I order that if my wife Kitty 
should prove pregnant before my decease and bear me one more child, that 
said child share equal in my estate aforesaid with the rest of my children 
above named in the same manner as the said child had been named with the 
rest of my children. Item -it is my wish that my friends Joseph Sharpe, 
and Jno L Jetton be my executers of this my last will and testament - in 
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 22nd 
March in the Year of our Lord 1817.

State of Tennessee, Rutherford County Court - March term 1818 -- The 
execution of the last will and testament of David Deas was proven by the 
oaths of William Thomas, subscribing witness thereto, and en motion

Estate of David Deas dec'd which is willed & bequeathed to his widow Kitty 
Keas during her life or widowhood by his last will and testament - viz - 
Household furniture - one bureau and press, three beds, bed steds and 
furniture, one walnut chest, ten chairs one table two pairs of fire dogs 
and kitchen furniture, eight pots, ovens & kettles, four pails, two 
washing tubs, one loom, one frying pan, two pot hooks, two skillets and 
two tea kettles, farming tools, two plows and gearing, one axe and two 
weeding hoes stock of cattle, four cows and calves, ten head of sheep, 
three head of horses, as named in will - also all the stock of hogs and 
all the stock of provisions on hand and one side saddle - We John L. 
Jetton and Joseph Sharpe, executors of the last will and testament of 
David Keas dec'd - do certify that the foregoing contains a true and 
perfect inventory of all the personal estate of said David Keas together 
with its valuation and sale - And also an account of the articles willed 
and bequeathed to Kitty Keas, widow of said David - In witness whereof, we 
have hereunto set our hands and seals the 8th day of June 1818 -
