This is my great grandmother's hand written genealogy.  It is written in a
Webster's Composition Book, probably owned by one of her school aged children.
It contains information about the Braleys and Strouds, from both of her
parents families.

Handwritten by Eliza Jane Braley, daughter of Christopher Columbus Braley and
Margaret Stroud

The spelling has not been changed. Everything is written in a Websters
Composition Book which measures about 5x6 inches. Most pages are numbered at
the top, they appear to represent generations of family.

Wife of Wm Stroud sr. died he then married Mrs Margaret Reynolds. To this
marriage were born three children vis Martha S. who married Robert Hines.
Bartlett S. who married Nancy Winton, Mack P. who never married. Wm Stroud,
 Sr., was District Elector on the Democratic Andrew Jackson 1828. Moderator 
for the Separate Baptist Church for thirty years.

Thomas Stroud sr. married Hannah Roberson a sister to Nathaniel Roberson who
settled north of Barren Fork river. Thomas Stroud Sr. settled on Hickory Creek
in 1813. To the above marriage were born the following children viz. Wm.

Marshall Stroud Sr, married ...... of Desha County Arkansas to this marriage
were born the following children

Calvin , Wm, Alfred, Marshall Jr., Sally, Polly & Betsy.

These notations are on the same page.

Wm Sr., Thomas Sr., Anderson, Marshall, Dickson A. Sr., and john Stroud Sr.
and three sisters were emigrants from Orange County North Carolina.

Wm Fears settled on Hickory Creek in 1804 sold to Thomas Stroud Sr. in 1813

JOHNS

Died Friday, May 6, 1927, at 2 o'clock at the family residence, Rockvale,
Tenn. Mr. Lucy Johns, wife of P.V. Johns, age 71. She is survived by her
husband and the following children, George Johns of Goodland, Clifford Johns
of Los Angeles, Cal., Pat Johns of Toledo, O., Mrs. C.E. Snell of Colorado
Springs, Col. Mrs, W.A. Burke and Mrs A.C. Lester of Nashville, horace Johns,
Goodland, Kansas, Mrs. Ralph Moore, Unionville, Paul V Johns, goodland, and
Mrs. Forest Tucker of Rockvale.

Funeral from the Presbyterian Church, Rockvale, tomorrow (Sunday) morning at
11 o'clock. Services by Rev. Elisha Henry. Interment at evergreen Cemetery.
The following will serve as pall-bearers; Clinton yeargan, Chas. McLean, Ira
Carlton, Ervin Carlton, Jeff Covington, Tom Williams, Woodfin and Moore in
charge.

ELEVATOR MAN KILLED IN FALL

Coldwater, Kas. Nov 19 (A.P) A. F. Braly 63, manager of the Scott Lincoln
elevator here five years, was killed yesterday afternoon when he fell 35 feet
down the lift shaft. He is survived by widow and a son Marshall who is in the
Army training at New York University

OBITUARY

Sain - the funeral of George T. Sain, 91, was held Monday afternoon at 3 
o'clock at the Red Bank Methodist church. Mr Sain died Sunday night at 9:30 
o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carl Sister, Tacoma street. Mr. Sain
was born Feb 18, 1840 in Middle Tennessee, where he spent the early part of
his life. He was a prosperous farmer of Middle Tennessee, and also spent a
number of years in the mercantile business in Nashville. He was a member of
the Thirty-fifth Tennessee regiment of the Civil war, was captured and taken
as a a prisoner to Rock Island, where he spent fourteen months in prison.
Later he was sent to guard the mail on the Overland mail route to California,
where he lived twelve months. He was married to Miss Cindreella Frances Paty
April 9, 1872. Mr. Sain came to Chattanoga twenty six years ago, and had in
these years made a host of friends who with his family will miss his pleasant
and sunshiny disposition, which made everyone happy when them came in contact
with him. Until the last five months Mr Sain had been able to go to the post
office and the grocery stores, which are several blocks from his home, where
he enjoyed meeting his friends with a smile and a hearty handshake. Since
early childhood Mr. Sain had been a member of the Methodist church and
although on account of his age had not been able to attend church services in
the last few years, he was one of the staunch supporters of the word and the
pastors were always welcome n his home. Besides his widow, Mrs. Cinderella
Frances Sain, he leaves nine children. L. B., R. F, S.L., and P. F. Sain, this
city; G.C Sain of Miami, Fla, ; Mr. E.L. Swick of Old Fort N. C., Mrs. K. W.
Huddings of Wartrace; Mrs. H. d Porter and Mrs Carl Slater of Red Bank;
several grand children and great-grandchildren. The grandsons. E.J. and Heyman
Sain, Edward E Pittsinger, Barmes Pittsinger, K.W. Hudgins, Jr. and Frank
Hudgins were pallbearers. M.P. Shauf, Charlie Fudge, J.W. Helms, T.G.
Chandler, Ned Jenkins, Malcolm Lynch, Earl bostain, Joe Hoge, W. Milt Campbell
and jess L. Ervin were honarary pallbearers. The Rev W.C. Daniels, pastor of
the Red Bank Methodist church, conducted the funeral services. Remains were
laid to rest in Chattanooga Memorial Park, Arrangements in charge of 
Chapman's.



MRS. M.F. STROUD

Mary Frances Braly was born August 25, 1852, at Manchester, Tenn. She
porfessed faith in Christ in girlhood and united with the Methodist Church, to
which she remained faithful until death.

She was married to D.M. Stroud, January 5, 1873. To this unon were born ten
children. Her husband and two children have preceded her in death. She leaves
to mourn her passing eight children, 16 grandchildren, and nine great
grandchildren, one sister. Mrs. Joe L. Bryan, Manchester, Tenn. The children
are Mrs. Homer Reynolds of Alpena pass, Ark., G.H. Stroud, Spurlake N.Mex.,
Mrs. H. A. Bohnsack, Whichita, Kansas, Mrs. J.A. Shahan, Texhoma, Okla., Clay,
Burr, Maud and Dee of Green Forest. All of the children except two were with
her during her illness. Funeral services ere held at the Green Forrest
Methodist Church Thursday, Sept. 3, at 2:30 p.m., in charge of Rev. W. A.
Downum, pastor of the Berryville Methodist church, assisted by Rev. W.K.
Wharton, pastor of the Green Forrest Baptist Church, Roy Kirkpatrick directed
the music. Pallbearers were H.B. Phillips, Bob Patton, W.T. Ward, H.S.
Shibley, Poynor Ramsey and Claude Buell.

Interment was in Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home.



SAIN, MRS. CINDERELLA PATY, 81, widow of the late George T. Sain died at the
home of her daughter, Mr. C.H. Slater, l711 Tacoma Street, Red Bank, at 3:40 o
clock Tuesday afternoon. Mrs Sain was a member of the Methodist Episcopal
church since childhood. She is survived by nine children.L.B., R.F., S.L., and
P.F.Sain, of this city. G.C. Sain of Miami, Fla. Mrs. K.W. Hudgins of
Wartrace, Tenn., Mrs E.L. Swick, Mrs. H.D. Porter, Mrs. C.H. Slater of Red Bank.
Funeral services will be held from he Red Bank Methodist church at 10 o'clock
Thursday morning, the Rev. W.C. Daniels conducting the services. Pallbearers
will be grandsons of the deceased. Internment will be at Chatanooga Memorial
Park. Arrangements are in charge of Chapmans.

Moses, Wm. And Joseph Guess settled on Hickory creek in 1799 or 1780.

Joseph Dial hickory Creek in 1805, he came from Delaware.

Abner Jarvis settled on Hickory Creek in 1803 or 1804.

Note from contributor:

Eliza Jane Braley and Joseph Lafayette Bryan lived within ½ mile of the Bryan
Cemetery, the house is now owned by Mr and Mrs. John Freeman. Joe and Jennie
as they were known to family lived in this house until the early 1920's when
they re-located to Summitville, Tennessee.

John Bryan's land was bordered by that of Christopher Columbus Braley's.
