Deeston "Dee" Paul Braswell, 79, 2530 Stateline Road, Elizabethton, died at his
residence Monday, September 5, 2005, after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Braswell was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Tom and Mary
Williams Braswell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
three sisters and two brothers.
Mr. Braswell was a barber and retired from the West Side Barber Shop after 43
years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Freedom Fellowship
Church.
He was a loving husband, father and grandpaw. He will be missed by all his
friends and neighbors.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Bernice Dugger Braswell; a daughter and son-
in-law, Paulette and Steve Watts, Unicoi; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law,
Stephanie and Jeremy Paulins, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Germaine
Greer, Elizabethton; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Kirkpatrick, Elizabethton.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Braswell will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday,
September 8, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Roberson, Rev. B.F.
McKinney Jr. and Rev. Dexter Brummitt officiating. Music will be provided by
Mark Odom. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday,
September 9, at the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who
are requested to assemble at the funeral chapel at 9:15 a.m. Friday, will be
Tommy Smalling, Jeremy Paulins, Tommy Joe Greer, Jerry Weaver, Carl Roberson,
Larry Stevens, Richard Blevins, John D. Snyder and Gary Smith. Honorary
pallbearers will be V.A. Doctors, Dr. Battle, Dr. Bush, friends and neighbors,
and all local barbers. Special thanks is extended to all the doctors and nurses
of the James H. Quillen V.A. Hospital. The family will receive friends at the
funeral chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. Friends may
also call at the residence at anytime. Family and friends will assemble at the
funeral chapel at 9:15 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery. Condolences to the
