CEMETERY HISTORY:

Oakdale Baptist Church has an exciting history. Its origin goes back to July 18,
1891. At the request of a number of brethren and sisters in this community, a
new church was organized, consisting of twenty members. One of the members,
Brother N.O. Farmer, donated the land. A motion was made and the church went
into an election for a pastor, which resulted in the call of Brother W.M.
Pinson, first pastor of Oakdale Baptist Church. The church adopted
Oakdale as its name on July 18, 1891, and construction started the same year.
Our fellowship hall, which had been a school house, was purchased for $525.00 on
April 15, 1956. The land on which Oakdale Baptist Church, the Fellowship Hall,
and the Parsonage stands cover ten acres. For several years a continuous
renovation has been in progress. At the present time we are planning to add on
as the Lord leads.
Oakdale has had many pastors, some of them were W.B. Hawkins, I.E. McDaniel.
C.A. Capell, M.A. Guest, W.W. Leathers, Claude Stovall, Floyd Loudermilk. Joe
Walters, Ralph Griffin. Mike Sluder, Charles Foster, and C.W. Hicks. Our present
pastor. Rev. David Blizzard has been at Oakdale since September 9, 1984.
As we close, we would like to remember those who labored in love and pray that we will continue in that Christian love, and pray for God's blessings on Oakdale
Baptist Church in the future.
