SAMUEL L. BITTNER,

A well-known and respected citizen of Altoona, died at 4.50 this 
morning, at his residence, 1202 Fourteenth avenue.  His demise was 
caused by anemia, with which he had been ailing for several years.  He 
had been confined to his home for the past five months.  Mr. Bittner 
was employed as city salesman for Curry, Canan & Co., and was well-
known throughout the city.  He was born in Lewistown, Pa., December 18, 
1831.  For a number of years he resided in Lock Haven, coming to this 
city sixteen years ago.  He was a brother of the late Dr. Bittner.  
Deceased is survived by his wife and two children - Mrs. Andrew 
Kirkpatrick of New York city and Seydell L. Bittner of Pittsburg.  He 
also leaves three sisters - Mrs. Frank Satterly and Mrs. Westbrook, 
both of Lock Haven, and Mrs. Williams of Wilkesbarre.  He was a member 
of the Masonic lodge of Lock Haven and of the First Presbyterian church 
of this city.  Funeral services will be held at the house at 3 o'clock 
Friday afternoon.  Private interment in Fairview cemetery.
