Mrs. Caroline Wheeler, 87, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Spencer 
Beecher, on Yeomans street, Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. following a stroke 
which she suffered Friday morning.  It was her second stroke, having suffered 
a previous one in 1939.  She had been in poor health since the first stroke.

Born in Niles, June 12, 1854, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Almond Batchelor.  
She was married on Christmas day in 1870 in Charles E. Wheeler at Chapin.  The 
couple took up housekeeping at Ovid and remained there for about a year.  They 
moved to Lansing where they lived for many years.  For a few years they lived 
in Grand Rapids and then moved back to Lansing.  Since his death on September 
16, 1922, she had made her home with her children.  She had been with Mrs. 
Beecher for the past ten years.  Two children, Mrs. Jessie Beecher and Ralph 
Wheeler preceded her in death.  Mrs. Jessie Beecher died six weeks after the 
death of her father, Charles E. Wheeler.  Ralph Wheeler was killed in an 
automobile accident in 1937.  Mrs. Wheeler was a member of a Lansing 
Presbyterian church.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter, Maitland A. Wheeler of Detroit, Charles 
H. Wheeler of South Bend, Indiana, and Mrs. Beecher of Ionia. 

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. from the Bradley funeral 
home on West Washington street.  Interment will be at Balcom cemetery and Rev. 
A. J. Westmaas will officiate.

Funeral services for Mrs. Caroline Wheeler, 87, were held Friday afternoon at 
3 o’clock from the Bradley funeral home, and were conducted by Rev. Adam 
Westmaas, pastor of the First Presbyterian church.  Interment was at the 
family lot at Balcom cemetery.

Bearers were five grandsons, Robert Beecher, Clinton Beecher, Richard Wheeler, 
Jack Wheeler and Don Wheeler, and Nelson Shoemaker.  Mrs. Wheeler, the mother 
of Mrs. Spencer Beecher, Yeomans street, died Wednesday morning at her 
daughter’s home.
