An Old Certificate
Mr. J. Watt Kirkpatrick, of Sharon, was telling The Observer Saturday of
seeing, as he expressed it, "the oldest church certificate in the county." Mr.
J.W. Potts, of Steel Creek, in looking amongst some old papers last week,
found in a pocket book over a hundred years old a certificate of the church
membership of his great grandfather, James Grier. Mr. Grier was a Scotch-Irish
Presbyterian. His certificate bore date of 1772, Apohill, Ireland. The writing
was well preserved and the style of the certificate interesting.
