Death Of James D. Kirkpatrick
The Standard of Raleigh, Jan. 13, 1864
DIED, -- In Fort Delaware, in October, 1863, JAMES D. KIRKPATRICK, son of
ALEX and FRANCES KIRKPATRICK of Alamance County, N.C.
The subject of this notice entered the service in July, 1862 -- was a
member of Company I, 17th North Carolina Troops. He participated in the
Fredericksburg Battle, in the Battle of Winchester and the Battle of
Gettysburg, Pa. At the latter place he was captured by the enemy, and carried
a prisoner of war to Fort Delaware. After a time, disease seized upon his
system and he sickened and died, far away from home, where there was no mother
or sister to console him.
   He was born September 2,1829.
May his aged father and mother, sisters and brothers, relative and friends
humbly bow in submission to the dispensation of God's providence.
