Cemetery Surveys can be found at: http://www.geocities.com/~alextreehouse I have not included all information as the difficulty in transcribing old handwriting by definition creates transcription errors. If you find any relatives, I would highly recommend getting a copy of the death certificate for yourself. While the friendly folks who now take care of our vital records are careful to accurately record all important information, it was not always so. This first part contains records from 1913-1914. As this is the first time vital records were kept, things are not perfect. A few records from early 1915 are included and a few records from the end of 1914 will be included in Part 2. And a few families were not bothering to report births and deaths at this time. Also, several details such as the name of the deceased were more than occasionally omitted. Accuracy and legibility vary by township and their local registrars: Boyd: A.E. Lyday fair Brevard: G.C. Kilpatrick fair Cathey’s Creek: C.R. Sharp fair Dunn’s Rock: A.C. Landreth just plain awful - includes errors in dates Eastatoe: A.M. Paxton fair Gloucester: Vance Galloway good Hogback: Ward Breedlove fair Little River: W.R. Kilpatrick very poor handwriting Pisgah Forest records are included in Brevard & Boyd Townships. Rosman records are included in Cathey’s Creek and Eastatoe Townships. I have standardized dates. Where the date was not available or didn’t add up, I list the age at death. When I have added information not originally in that field of the death certificate, it is in parenthesis. This includes Matilda Wilson’s name which is no where to be found in the certificate, but is in my research notes on the HOGSED/HOXIT Family. The rest of these additions are from information found elsewhere on the certificate. Names are listed by last name to help in searching. I have also standardized some obvious misspellings to make a computerized search easier. Please get a copy of the original for further information about your ancestors. The biggest mystery is the certificate of a child of Basking TAYLOR. Based on the placement of this certificate, the person died between 13DEC1913 and 23JAN1914. The father’s name is the only information on the certificate, and the company contracted to copy the records didn’t even bother to copy this one.
