This info is regarding HAYWOOD C. DICKENS b. 24 dec 1843 Halifax, NC
d. 11 July 1862 Richmond, VA. His parents were Bennett E. Dickens, Jr.
and Nancy Dickens (also her maiden name). I transcribed with all spelling
and grammatical errors.
Private: Enlisted at age 18, January 24, 1862. Wounded in action at
Ellerson,s Mill, VA, June 26, 1862 and died of wounds in a hospital in
Richmond, VA, July 12, 1862. ("North Carolina Troops, 1861-1865, A Roster:

Sir:
You will please send me the money
that H C Dicken left at his
death in a letter please Enclose
the money in a letter and send
It to me Westland, NC care of
John A. B. Kilpatrick and this
shall be your receipt for the
same in so doing you will oblag
me verry much for I am an old man
And a cripple so I cannot
travell about to attend to my
own busines if he had any effects
besides money you can dispose of them
as you think propper take enuff to
satisfy you for your troubble and
please send me the remainder
