THOMAS2 BOOKER (SHIELDS1) was born November 25, 1803 in Spartanburg, South Carolina(1), and died February 10, 1883 in Itawamba County, Mississippi - New Salem(2). He married CATHARINE WISE July 20, 1826(3), daughter of WILLIAM WISE and CATHARINE GIDEON. The parents of Thomas Booker were Shields and Ann Pride Booker. The Booker family was in Monroe County before 1820 and moved to Itawamba County after 1835. Catharine Wise Booker was the daughter of William and Catharine Elizabeth Gideon Wise. She was born in Bedford County, Tennessee June 7, 1810. Catharine was known to have had bright yellow hair and was thought to be of Swedish or German descent. Catharine Wise Booker died November 28, 1887 in New Salem community of Itawamba County, Mississippi. The Booker Bible has the name shown as "Catharine." Children of THOMAS BOOKER and CATHARINE WISE are: i. ISAAC WISE3 BOOKER, b. November 23, 1828, Monroe County, Mississippi(4); d. July 29, 1862, Gainesville, Alabama(5); m. JANE M. EVANS, November 24, 1853, Probably Itawamba County, Mississippi. Isaac Wise Booker enlisted in the Civil War April 29, 1862 in Co. G. 43rd Mississippi Volunteers at Smithville, Mississippi . He died of disease July 29, 1862 at Gainesville, Alabama. Records show Jane was paid $45.50 - pay due Isaac W. Booker. Military records describe Isaac as 33 years old 5' 11" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes and black hair. ii. JAMES W. BOOKER, b. January 16, 1831; d. July 17, 1918; m. SARAH FRANCES HUDSON, December 22, 1872. James Booker enlisted in the Civil War at Smithville, Mississippi April 29, 1862 in Co., G, 43rd Mississippi Volunteers. He was wounded at Corinth, Mississippi, hospitalized at Holly Springs and Warren Hospital at Meridian, Mississippi. He was wounded October 3, 1862. He returned to his regiment February 13, 1863. He was captured at Vicksburg, July 4, 1863 and was captured at Nashviille, Tennessee December 15, 1864. He was received at a military prison at Louisville, Kentucky December 19, 1864 and was discharged December 20, 1864 and then sent to Camp Douglas, Ill. He was listed on roll of prisoners there June 18, 1865. He applied for pension September 6, 1911 and died July 17, 1918. iii. STEPHNEY MCCLURE BOOKER, b. March 1, 1833, Monroe County, Mississippi(7); d. December 3, 1921; m. NANCY EMALINE SUSAN MEADOR, September 15, 1864. He enlisted April 29, 1862 Co. G. 43rd Mississippi Volunteers. He was wounded and in the hospital July 3, 1863. He applied for pension September 9, 1920. iv. SUSAN CATHARINE BOOKER, b. December 7, 1835, Monroe County, Mississippi(8); d. July 11, 1919, Itawamba County, Mississippi - New Salem(9); m. JOHN T. C. EVANS, October 27, 1853, Itawamba County, Mississippi. Her name in the Booker Bible is listed only as Susan Booker. We assume she was named for her mother and, therefore, are spelling her name Catharine. A note in the Evans Bible regarding the marriage listed her only as Susan Booker. Marriage records in Itawamba County, Mississippi list a Susan Booker m. EVANS, John L 1853-Oct-24 Family tradition tells us Susan Booker Evans, was a nice looking woman. She took care of the children and the farm during the Civil War. She had a negro couple who stayed with her. They would hide supplies and live stock on an island in the Tombigbee river from the Confederate and Union troops. She always said one was bad as the other about taking supplies. v. MARY ELIZABETH BOOKER, b. ABT 1839, Itawamba County, Mississippi; m. CHRIS. C. JONES, November 18, 1860. vi. MARTHA A. BOOKER, b. January 1, 1846, Itawamba County, Mississippi(10); d.
