William Kidwell
  Mr. William R. Kidwell, 76, of 28 Locust Court in Holidaysburg, PA, died Aug. 
29, at Altoona Hospital in Pennsylvania from a brief illness.
  He was the husband of Elsie Maslona, whom he married Jan. 18, 1998. His first 
wife, Rose, died in 1992. 
  Born Dec. 24, 1923, in White Marsh, he was the son of the late Joseph S. and 
Mary Elizabeth Curten Kidwell. 
  He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Holidaysburg. 
  He was an underground electrician in Virginia, where he retired in 1989.
  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served with the 82nd Airborne during 
World War II.
  He enjoyed golfing and bowling. 
  Additional survivors include one daughter, Rosemary Kelly of Monrovia; four 
brothers, David of Upper Marlboro, Charles of Hagerstown, James K. of Rockville 
and Leroy of St. Mary's; four sisters, Cissy of Newport News, Va., Hilda Farmer 
of Riverdale, Betty of Virginia, and Ethel of Waldorf; and three granddaughters. 
  Friends were received Sept. 1, at Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home in Damascus. 

Donald Kessinger
  Mr. Donald A. Kessinger, 41, a registered engineer with Jackson & Tull and 
formerly with Bechtel Power, died Aug. 27, in Silver Spring.
  Born in Montgomery County, he was the son of Jean Kessinger of Frederick and 
the late Jack Kessinger.
  Mr. Kessinger graduated from Springbrook High School and University of 
Maryland, School of Engineering. 
  He was active in the Boy Scouts for more than 30 years. He was a member of 
Troop 1444 of the Olde Mill District where he served as a scout, assistant scout 
master, camping coordinator, high adventure adviser for both the troop and 
district, Eagle Scout adviser and adult adviser for the Olde Mill Chapter of the 
Order of the Arrow. He was the recipient of the District Award of Merit, 
District Scouter of the Year and Vigil Order of the Arrow. 
  He loved working with scouts of all ages and touched numerous lives. He will 
be missed by scouts and leaders alike.
  In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, John Kessinger of 
Richmond, Va.; four sisters, Sharon Walton of Damascus, Marilyn Kessinger of 
Burtonsville, Sally Phifer of Richmond, and Kristine Schroeder of Frederick; and 
10 nieces and nephews, Johnny, Keith, Lauren, Robin, Nicole, Kelly,
  Noah, Jimmie, Zach and Tyler; one cousin, Mary Jane Burt; and many friends and 
other relatives.
  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to 
the NCAC Boy Scouts of America, 9190 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20814.

Joseph Riedmuller
  Mr. Joseph A. Riedmuller, 29, of Walkersville, died suddenly Monday, Aug. 28, 
in Urbana. 
  He was the devoted father of Shane Vincent.
  Born Feb. 20, 1971, in Silver Spring, he was the son of George Riedmuller of 
Sandy Lake, Pa., and Marcia Fallon of Maybrook, Va.
  He attended Magruder High School in Rockville, and Gaithersburg High School in 
Gaithersburg. 
  He was employed by Valley Excavation Co. in Frederick.
  In addition to his son, he is survived by 12 brothers and sisters, Diane, 
Michael, Brian, Kevin, Kathleen, Brendan, Susan, Steven, Laura, Jennifer, Monica 
and Daniel. 
  Services will be private. 
  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shane V. Riedmuller Scholarship 
Fund, c/o Farmers & Mechanics National Bank, 481 Frederick Road, Gaithersburg,

Joseph Gamble Jr.
  Mr. Joseph Ronald Gamble Jr., 58, of Germantown, died suddenly Friday, Sept. 
1, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, after suffering a heart attack 
onboard his boat, the Jo'Lene.
  Born Sept. 26, 1941, in Maryland, he was the son of the late Joseph Ronald Sr. 
and Bessie Pierce Gamble.
  He served 24 years as a firefighter for the District of Columbia and retired 
from his position as a bus driver for the Montgomery County School System.
  He enjoyed boating and fishing. He also was an avid Redskins fan and a member 
of the Emerald Society.
  Surviving are three daughters, Joanne L. Gamble of Hagerstown, Suzanne 
Christine Bennett of Frederick and Kathleen Kirkpatrick; and three 
grandchildren. 
  She also will be remembered by long-time companion, Arlene Waters of 
Germantown.
  Friends called Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home in 
Damascus, where services were held Tuesday evening. 
  Interment was private.
  The family requests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial 
contributions to the Burn Unit Division, 4H-I.C.U., Washington Hospital Center, 
110 Irving St., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20011.

Gloria Lowery
  Ms. Gloria Janet Lowery, 57, of Frederick and formerly of Seneca, died Monday, 
Sept. 11, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
  Born March 22, 1943, in Seneca, she was the daughter of Myrtle Virginia Grimes 
Lowery of Frederick and the late Francis Leon Lowery Sr.
  Until her retirement, Ms. Lowery was employed as a machinist with RACAL 
Communications in Gaithersburg, Pa. 
  Surviving in addition to her mother are four sisters, Bettie Lowery of 
Collingswood, N.J., Jane Wonders of Dillsburg, Pa., Connie Lowery of Woodstock, 
Va., and Roxanne Lowery of Miami; and one brother, Francis Lowery Jr. of 
Littlestown, Pa.
  Funeral services and interment were private.
  The family requests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial 
contributions to the American Cancer Society, Montgomery County Unit, 11323 
Amhurst Ave., Silver Spring, Md. 20902.
  Arrangements were handled by Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home in Damascus.

Violet Harding
  Mrs. Violet J. Harding, 86, of Gaithersburg, died Sept. 20, at Shady Grove 
Adventist Hospital.
  She was the wife of the late John Edward Harding Sr.
  She was the daughter of the late Maude Schwartzbeck Souders and Robert 
Souders.
  Mrs. Harding retired from the Montgomery County Board of Education.
  Mrs. Harding was a Catholic and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
  She is survived by eight children, Julia Gabor of Frederick; Carvel Harding 
and wife Janet of Jefferson; Jean Graham and husband Charles and Kenneth Harding 
and wife Carole, all of Rockville; Priscilla Hansen and husband Ronald, Upton 
Harding and wife Constance, and Jacqueline Harding, all of Gaithersburg; and 
Janet Burdette and husband John of Monrovia; one daughter-in-law, Marguerite 
Harding of Bowie; one sister, Helen Beck of Rockville; 17 grandchildren; and 20 
great-grandchildren.
  She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lita Joan Harding; two sons, John 
Edward Jr. and Robert L. Harding; and six brothers.
  Viewing was held at Robert A. Pumphrey Funeral Home in Rockville on Sept. 24.
  A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Saint Martin's of Tours Catholic Church 
in Gaithersburg on Sept. 25.
  Interment followed in Forest Oak Cemetery, Gaithersburg.
  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Gaithersburg 
Washington Grove Fire Department, 801 Russell Ave., Gaithersburg, MD 20877.

Donald Lee Shipley
  Mr. Donald Lee "Chick" Shipley, 66, of Leesburg, Va., died Sept. 18, in 
Atlanta, Ga., while on a business trip.
  He was the husband of Brenda Sharon Shipley, of Leesburg.
  Born Sept. 5, 1934 in Lewisdale, he was a son late Maurice Alton Shipley and 
Nora Brown Shipley,
  He was raised in Maryland.
  He was a life member of the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department, serving as 
deputy fire chief for several years, and fire chief from 1970 to 1976.
  Mr. Shipley and his family moved to Leesburg in 1976, where he was the owner 
and manager of the Ben Franklin Store in Leesburg for 26 years.
  In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Cheri Garvin of 
Richmond, Va., Carrie Johnson of Sterling, Va., and Donna Shipley of Leesburg; 
two sisters, Norita "Sissy" Shipley of Gaithersburg and Mary Ellen Winters of 
Silver Spring; two sons-in-law, Danny Garvin and Keith Johnson; four brothers, 
Alton, Carroll and Linwood Shipley, all of Damascus, and Roby Shipley of 
Douglas, Wyo.; one grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and 
friends.
  A fire department memorial service and viewing were held Sept. 21, at Olin L. 
Molesworth Funeral Home in Damascus.
  Funeral services were held Sept. 23, at the Leesburg United Methodist Church. 
  Interment followed at the Union Cemetery in Leesburg.
