In the name of God amen the 21 September 1783.  I JOHN CLARKE of the County and Parish of 
Henrico being very sick and Weak in body but of perfect mind an memory Thanks be given unto 
God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body knowing that it is appointed 
for all men Once to die do make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say 
principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of god that gave 
it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like manner at the 
discretion of my Executors and as touching my worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased god 
to bless me with in this life I give and dispose of the same in the manner and form 
following that is to say

In the first place I lend to my well beloved Wife ELISABETH CLARKE all my estate both Real 
and personal as long as she remains my Widow but at her death or marriage my Will and desire 
is that my whole estate both real and personal be it of what nature or quality ----- may be 
sold and the money arising from the said Sale to be equally divided among all my children.  
I lastly constitute and Appoint my loving wife ELISABETH CLARKE, my son BENJAMIN CLARKE, my 
son OBADIAH CLARKE, and my brother in Law JOHN ELLIS my Executors to this my last will and 
Testament.  In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal the day and 
year above Written.
