Bullitt Co. Will Book A p. 126
In the name of God Amen I Mathias SMOCK of the County of Bullitt being very sick and weak of 
body but sound in mind and memory Calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is 
appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is 
to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul to God that gave it and my 
body to the Earth  and as touching Such worldly Estate which it has pleased God to bless me 
in life I give devise and bequeath to Catharine my dearly beloved wife the whole plantation 
whereon she now lives with every thing belonging thereto to be at her disposal during her 
life together with my household goods and memorable Effects and all the old corn and wheat 
and that which is in the ground and the waggon which is coming from Mr. PICKLE  (?) and at 
her death it is my will that Said plantation be left to the two youngest Sons to wit David 
and Mathias to be equally divided between them and Davis is to have the colt which he now 
claims and Mathias I leave the choice of my mares to raise a colt from from any horse he 
chooses to put her to to be his own and if it dies before it comes of age he is to have 
another and as they both become of age they come into full possession of Said colts together 
with A Saddle and bridle Each.

also I give unto my three eldest sons, namely James, Henry & Jacob my other plantation which 
I bought of Wm. CONN to be equally divided amongst them at my wife's death.  I also give and 
bequeath to my two grand children living now with me the heirs of my son John, Deceased to 
wit Catharine and John to Catharine I leave fifty Dollars cash to come to her at my wife's 
death and if She Should not be of age at that time the money to  put at Interest until 
such time as she should become nineteen years of age and to John I leave Eighty acres of 
land lying between cane and back run adjoining WARREN's Division line to become in 
possession of the Same at my wifes decease or Sooner if she should marry before that time 
and if either of Said children should decease within said time the legacy left to one 
deceased is to become the property of the other.  also to John I give a horse creature to be 
valued to Sixty Dollars and each of said children to be schooled out of my Estate the boy 
perfect to the rule of three and the girl to read and write  if they should live in the 
family if not the Exr. is not bound in that part.

I also give unto my Eldest Daughter Peggy ALLEN fifty  Dollars  which I have discharged a 
Debt with against her husband.

I also give to my Daughter Polly one hundred Dollars cash to be levied out of my Estate in 
like manner and time.

I also give to my Daughter Sally one hundred Dollars cash to be levied out of my Estate at 
the same time.

Also I give and bequeath to my youngest Daughter Catharine one hundred and Eighty Dollars 
Eighty of S'd Sum to be on outset (?) of her marriage and the  rest due to become due at my 
wife's decease and further my mind is that if either of my two youngest Sons Should Decease 
before their legacy becomes due the part bequest to one deceased becomes the property of the 
other providing he dies without an heir and further my mind is that the p plantation left to 
my three Elder Sons should be  leased or rented and the income thereof be Equally divided 
among them ----  times as it shall be their possession and unto my Son Jacob I give a horse, 
Saddle and bridle and my few books I want ---- in the following manner:  the young man's 
companion I give to Jacob, the bible to my wife and a testament to my youngest Daughter and 
the residue to be divided among the Rest of the Boys. 

I also Constitute appoint and ordain my wife Catharine my Sons James, Henry and David the 
Sole Exor. of this my last will and testament Satisfying and confirming this and no other to 
be my last will and testament.  In witness whereof I have hereto Set my hand and Seal this 
24th day of August 1813.
