Mrs. J. L. Black Dies of Illness

  Mrs. J. L. Black, 79, of  1218 Gordon Ave., Died Friday, February 10, 1960, 
in the Plains Convalescence Home following an illness. Mrs. Black had been a 
resident of Albany the last four years, moving here from Mitchell County.  She 
was born April 2, 1880, in Mitchell County and was the daughter of  the late 
Charles W. and Susan Ann Tyus Collins, two of the pioneer families of Mitchell 
County. Before her marriage to the late Joseph L. Black she was the former Miss 
Hattie Collins. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of 
Mitchell County.
  Surviviors include three daughters, Mrs. W. J. Stratford of Albany,  Miss 
Elizabeth Black of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. E. J. McDowell of Pomona, 
Calif.: a sister, Mrs. S. C. Boynton of Americus; six grandchildren and 12 
great-grandchildren.
  The family will be at 811 Highland Ave., the home of Mr. & Mrs. James E. 
Smith.
  Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Kimbrell-Stern Funeral 
Directors.
