Leachman Mrs. Hazel Lee Leach-man, 57, of Ila, died Wednesday, February 26, 2003, at St. Mary’s Hos-pital, Athens, following a brief illness. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Leachman was a daughter of the late Elias Grover Blalock and Mamie Shelnut Blalock. She was the wife of the late Walter Leachman Sr. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, February 28, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Bill Carpenter and Harlon Noles officiating. Burial was in Howington Cemetery, Nicholson. Survivors include two sons, Walter Leachman Jr. and Joseph Jody Leachman, both of Commerce; two daughters, Judy Phillips, Toccoa, and Debra Allen, Nicholson; four brothers, Harold Blalock, Athens, David Blalock and Gene Blalock, both of Danielsville, and Paul Blalock, Ila; four sisters, Jane Leach, Commerce, Linda Ayers, Homer, and Faye Arrowood and Rita Blalock, both of Athens; and nine grandchildren. Shepherd Caleb Bran Shepherd, infant son of Curtis Freeman Shepherd and Andrea Winslett Shepherd, Dewy Rose, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Caleb was born February 14, 2003, in Clarke County. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at Dewy Rose Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Purvis, Tim Adams and Sean Baughman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Todd Miss Janie Elizabeth Todd, 78, of Royston, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston. Miss Todd was born in Franklin County on May 23, 1924, a daughter of the late John Bell Todd and the late Lillie McGowan Todd. She was retired from Advocate Press and was a member of Franklin Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church, Royston. Miss Todd was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and William Todd, and a sister, Bell Todd Mebane. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, at Franklin Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Durant Driggers and John Swails officiating. Mr. King was born September 29, 1921, in Elbert County. He was a son of the late Robert B. and Fannie V. King. Mr. King was a retired farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby K. Smith, and two brothers, Lloyd King and Marvin King. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Dewitt Waters and Chris Pritchett officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Walters Mrs. Hilda Nelms Walters, 83, of Royston, died Wednesday, February 26, 2003, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston. Mrs. Walters was born September 16, 1919, in Elbert County, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Minnie Mann Adams. She was a retired beautician and a member of Royston Baptist Church, where she attended the Bible Sunday School Class. Mrs. Walters was married first to the late Clyde Nelms and second to the late Hoyt Walters. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Adams and Calvin Adams. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 28, at Royston Baptist Church with the Rev. Byron Greene officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Cox was a son of the late Richard and Hattie Goss Cox. He retired from the University of Georgia and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Cox was a gold card member of Mason Lodge 21 and was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church, Arnoldsville. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at St. James A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Dr. Sarah Billups officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Cox is survived by his wife, Sara Howard Cox; two sons, Grady Howard and Matt Brightwell; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mr. Powell was born in Banks County on December 23, 1923. He was a son of the late Martin Luther Powell and the late Lora Greenway Powell. He was a retired restaurant cook and was of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his wife, Icie Edna Dove Powell, five brothers, Swain, Pete, Charlie, Arthur and Willie Powell, and three sisters, Ruby Davidson, Minnie Parson and Rosie Parson. Drake Ralph Darrell Drake, 54, of Madisonville, Ky., died Saturday, March 1, 2003. Mr. Drake was born in Clarke County, a son of the late Guy Thomas and Nancy Helen Moon Drake. He was a member of Victory Church. Mr. Drake was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Penny Tyson. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. James Harolson officiating. Burial was in Kidd Cemetery. Stone Troy Henderson Stone, 82, of Athens, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003. A native of Nicholson, Mr. Stone was born November 7, 1920, the son of the late John R. and Maude Henderson Stone. He joined the U.S. Army in June of 1941 at the age of 20. In the Army, Mr. Stone volunteered for the 101st Airborne unit where he served for four years. His unit jumped into Normandy on D-Day and saw action, including Bastogne, the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of Nazi concentration camps. As an accountant, Mr. Stone retired from the University of Georgia in 1977. He was of the Methodist denomination. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 7, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Robert Passmore officiating. Mr. Stone is survived by his wife, Mary Paul Williams Stone; his son, Richard T. Stone, and his wife, Susan Edwards Stone; his sister, Billie Gober; his grandchildren, John and Kim Stone; one great- granddaughter, one nephew, two nieces and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews. A native of Hull, Mrs. Spratlin, was a daughter of the late W.C. and Ada Johnson Murry. She was retired from the Clarke County School District and was a member of Hull Baptist Church. Mrs. Spratlin was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Thomas Spratlin. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, in the Hull Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Judy Spratlin and Danny R. Price, Athens; granddaughter, Lisa DeAnne Price, Athens; special caregiver, Judy Price Kingsland, Cocoa, Fla.; several sisters-in- law, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great- nieces and nephews. A native of Madison County, Mr. Patterson was the son of the late Daniel Wade and Euria Maude Estes Patterson. He was retired from the State Highway Department and was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Watkinsville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, with the Revs. Darrell Gilmer and Tony Lee officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Sam Cleghorne, Mike Cleghorne, Billy Cleghorne, Scott Cleghorne, Matt Cleghorne, Ryan Cleghorne, Jeff Dillard and Tommy Crowe served as pallbearers.
