Funeral Home: Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors 

Roy Eugene Young 

ALBANY - Roy Eugene (Gene) Young of Birmingham, AL, formerly of Albany, passed 
away on November 30 at the age of 83. Funeral services will be held on 
Saturday, December 4 at 11 am at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Home with Rev. Butch 
Knight officiating. Internment will follow in the Leesburg Cemetery. The family 
will receive friends tonight (Friday) from 5:30 - 7:00 pm at the Kimbrell-Stern 
Funeral Directors. 
Mr. Young was born in Albany on December 10, 1926 to the late Bertha Beasley 
Young Lamerton and the late Elzie Thomas Young. He attended schools in Albany 
and Leesburg before joining the military. He served in both the U.S. Navy and 
the U.S. Air Force for over 20 years and served combat tours in the Pacific 
during World War II and in Korea. After his military retirement, he worked for 
approximately 20 years in the food brokerage industry and was co-owner of Young-
Merritt Brokerage Company and Dixie Brokerage Company. Mr. Young was a longtime 
member of the Albany Golden K Kiwanis Club and served as president in 1996-97. 
He also was a recipient of the Distinguished Kiwanian Award. 
He was active in the Albany Police Department's Neighborhood Watch Program and 
was a member of First Baptist Church of Albany. He is survived by: his 
children, Kris Young Mueller of Birmingham, Jimmy Young of Tallahassee, and 
Col. (Ret.) Jeff Young of Huntsville, AL; and grandchildren, Megan Mueller 
Smith of Charlotte, Nick Mueller of Birmingham, Angela Young of Cleveland, Josh 
Young of Tallahassee, and Ashley Young and Ryan Young of Huntsville. He is also 
survived by three sisters, Lucille Williams of Albany, Ruth Robinson of Albany, 
and Mary Stokes of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, 
Ann King Young, who passed away on November 23, 2010. He also was preceded in 
death by his two brothers, Rufus Benson Young of Albany and Thomas Ray Young of 
Orlando. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be 
made to Albany Golden K Kiwanis Club, 2401 Barnesdale Way, Albany, GA 31707.
