Georgia Ham Wooten 

ALBANY – Georgia Ham Wooten, 85, passed away in her home on Monday, December 
10, 
2007, following a battle with cancer. 

Funeral service will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. at Kimbrell-Stern with interment 
to follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. Rev. Ralph Simmons and Rev. Michael A. McAfee 
officiating. 

Mrs. Wooten was born in Wilcox County, Ga., on December 23, 1921, to the late 
Bessie Wilson Ham and the late Stephen L. Ham. She moved from Arlington, Ga., 
to Albany in 1940, where she lived with her sisters during WWII. Mrs. Wooten 
worked with Dr. Charles Rackley as a dental assistant and later for Prisant's 
Jewelers and Bennie Bootery. While living in Albany, Mrs. Wooten met her future 
husband, John Edward Wooten, and they married at St. Teresa's Catholic Church 
in 1947. Mr. and Mrs. Wooten lived in the Wooten family home at 511 Pine Avenue 
for about five years before building their own home on their farm on Cordele 
Road, where they continued to live until their deaths. Mrs. Wooten attended 
Salem Baptist Church in Worth County and was a homemaker. 

Other than her parents, Mrs. Wooten was preceded in death in 1993 by her 
husband and also in 2006 by her sister, Frances H. Valandingham of DeLand, Fla. 

Survivors include her son, Steven Dulaney (Laney) Wooten and his wife, Kathy of 
Albany; two granddaughters, Kate LeAnn Wooten of Athens and Albany, Ga., 
Margaret Egan (Maggie) Wooten of Albany; two sisters, Nell H. Truluck of 
DeLand, Fla., and Ruby H. Huthmaker of Lexington, S.C.; and a number of nieces 
and nephews. 

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour 
at Kimbrell-Stern.
