Reuben "George" Thrift
May 18, 1914 - July 29, 2007

Reuben “George” Thrift, 93, of Leesburg, died Sunday, July 29, 2007, at his 
residence. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2007, graveside 
at Leesburg City Cemetery at 3 PM. The funeral service will be ministered by 
Reverend Eugine Barlow of Warner Robins, Georgia. The honorary pallbears will 
be the grandsons, grandson-in-laws – Larry V. Lewis and Jorge Inga MD, and 
Buford Clark. 

George Thrift was born in Uptonville, Charlton County, Georgia in 1914. He was 
the son of the late Thomas Hardy Thrift and Kizzie Jones Thrift. He was 
resident of Leesburg for the past 68 years. George was employed by the Central 
of Georgia Railroad and Southern Railroad until retirement. George married 
Gladys McBride on June 30, 1940. 

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Linda Marie Thrift Stocks, 
Georgianne Thrift Metts married to Jerry Keith Metts, and one son, Thomas Davis 
Thrift. Surviving grandchildren are Griffin Steven Stocks III, Dawn Cherie 
Metts Lewis, Alison Marie Stocks Inga, Jerry Keith Metts, II, Shane Morris 
Metts, and 11 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include several nieces and 
nephews. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of their choice.
