ALBANY — Max Tatum, 85, of Albany died Friday, November 10, 2006 at Magnolia 
Manor in Americus.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday 11 A.M. at Avalon United Methodist 
Church. The Rev. Ken Myers officiating.

A native of Terrell Co. Mr. Tatum was the son of the late Levi Tatum an 
Marguerite Barnwell. Mr Tatum retired as a Broker from Associated Realty after 
28 years and owned and operated a jewelry business in Gadsden, Al. for 9 years. 
He served in the United States Air Force, serving during WW II and the Air 
Force Reserve serving during Korean Conflict. Mr. Tatum was the Past Post 
Commander of Post 213 American Legion in Gadsden, Al. He completed Private 
Pilots course under G I Bill in 1947. He was active in SW Ga Genealogical 
Society, voluntering in the Genealogy Department for 22 years with Dougherty 
County Public Library system. Mr. Tatum is a Certifified Visitor with Mended 
Hearts, Inc. He has researched and compiled sixteen books including Avalon 
Methodist Church history. Mr. Tatum and his wife are active members of Avalon 
United Methodist Church and Pairs & Spares Sunday School Class.
His Parents and son Lee Tatum, three brothers, Clyde Hoyt, and Doyle Tatum, two 
sisters Edythe Darby Spencer and Voncile Melton and a grandson David Brooks Gay 
preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife Betsy Bundrick Tatum of Albany; Two daughters Bonnie 
Knox and her husband Mike of Lake Placid, Fl. Kathy Tatum and her husband Roger 
Bertrand of Albany; three stepsons Bobby Chapman, Durwood Chapman, Mike 
Chapman, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and 
friends.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 PM at Kimbell-Stern Funeral 
Home.

He was the Grandson of Jacob Rufus Tatum 1854-Forsythe-1896 Forythe and Julia A

He was the Great-Grandson of Elias James P Tatum 1809 NC-1895 Forsythe & 
Susannah Wells "Susan" Westbrook 1811 SC-1855 Forsythe
 
His Great=Great Grandfather was Nathaniel Tatum b a 1770 Buncombe Co NC d aft 
1850 Ga son of Nathaniel & Elizabeth Turner.   I have not made the connection 
to my own line of Tatum's- Christomer, Nathaniel etc. in early Va.
 
Max first wife was Dorothy Snow-and the Mother of his 3 children.
His brother Claude Galvenston 1902-1980 married my Great-Aunt Lillian Claire 
Hooks.
