J. Laurine McGhee 

ALBANY — J. Laurine McGhee, 85, of Albany died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, from 
complications of cancer. 

The funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday at Kimbrell- Stern Funeral 
Directors with Dr. C. William Eidenire and Rev. John Spencer officiating. 
Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery in Edison. 

Mrs. McGhee was born in Edison, GA on July 8, 1922. She retired from the Marine 
Corps Logistics Base in Albany in 1984 with more than 28 years of service. Mrs. 
McGhee was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church and the Vota Vita Sunday School 
Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, William W. “Bill” McGhee; her 
son, Robert Brooks McGhee; her parents, Robert and Nell Brooks; a sister, Edath 
Miller; and a brother, Billy Buck Brooks. 

Mrs. McGhee is survived by two daughters, Sandra Ricci of Oviedo, FL, and 
Suzanne Umont and her husband, Frank of Fern Park, FL; four granddaughters, 
Terri Gillett and her husband, John of Ellenwood, GA, Kristine Damon and her 
husband, James of Winter Springs, FL, Kathryn Higdon and her husband, Glen of 
Ashville, NC, and Tara Hale and her husband, Doug of Ormond Beach, FL; five 
great- grandchildren, Ethan Arline, Jake Damon, Kaia Damon, Jonah Higdon and 
Haley Gillett; a brother, Ennis L. Brooks and his wife, Martha of Shellman; and 
a sister, Bettye Garrett and her husband, Reid of Ozark, AL; and numerous 
nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors Friday from 
6 PM until 8 PM.
