Jewel Luckey

ALBANY — Jewel Luckey, 81, of Albany died Thursday, January 2, 2003, at her 
home following an illness.

Her funeral service will be today 3 PM at Kimbrell-Stern with interment to 
follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Michael Gravette and the Rev. Tom 
Newman will officiate.

A native of Savannah, GA, she had lived in Albany most of her life. She 
attended schools in Albany and graduated from Albany High School in 1936, and 
from the John Davis Memorial Bible School in Binghamton, NY, in 1945. She lived 
as a pastor's wife until 1968 when she returned to Albany. She was a member of 
Byne Memorial Baptist Church and was the teacher of the Faithful Workers Sunday 
School Class. She visited the homebound members of Byne and participated on 
many mission trips. She taught kindergarten and day care at Byne for over 20 
years, and she touched the lives of many children during that time. Following 
her retirement, she worked at the SOWEGA Council on Aging and volunteered with 
the Alzheimer's Caregivers Time Out (ACTO) program.

Survivors include two sons, Philip Thomas and his wife Connie of Cumming, GA, 
and Dan Thomas and his wife Beth of Plains, GA; a daughter, Ruth Knegtel and 
her husband Harry of Destin, FL; three grandchildren, Marie Thomas, David 
Thomas, Laura Thomas; a sister, Helen Strausser of Richmond, VA; a brother, 
Edward Johnson of Baltimore, MD.
