Mary Frances Boggs Joiner

ALBANY — Mary Frances Joiner, formerly of Albany, died Sunday night February 2, 
2003, in Denver, Colorado.

Born in Douglas, Georgia, on April 16, 1920, she moved with her family to 
Albany in 1926. She graduated from Albany High School and attended Georgia 
Women's College in Milledgeville. She was the daughter of Judson Neely Boggs 
and Jessie Lee Overstreet. In 1939, she married John Robert Joiner Jr., also of 
Albany.

For many years she served as a budget analyst at the Marine Corps Logistics 
Base. She also worked for the First State Bank of Albany and was a member of 
the board of AGE Federal Credit Union.

Her interest in genealogy led to participation and leadership in many local 
historical organizations including: Southwest Georgia Genealogical Society, 
United Daughters of the Confederacy, Thronateeska Chapter of the DAR; Daughters 
of 1812, John Sumner Chapter of Colonial Dames, and Daughters of American 
Colonists. Her other civic activities included membership in the Albany Garden 
Club, P.E.O., and For Get Me Nots. As a member of Porterfield United Memorial 
Methodist Church, she served as president of the Fellowship Sunday School Class 
and XYZ.

She is survived by a daughter, Mari Jo Joiner of Denver, Colorado; a son J. 
Robert Joiner III of Atlanta; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. 
Also surviving are two sisters, Katherine Boggs King of Lawrenceville, Georgia, 
and Wynona Boggs Van Tassle of Huntley, Illinois.

Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Kimbrell-Stern. 
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 PM at Kimbrell-Stern, with burial 
following at Riverside Cemetery.

Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707 or to the Dougherty County Public Library, 
300 Pine Street, Albany, GA 31701.
