Susie (Sue) Coggins Gerst
October 15, 1918 - August 03, 2007

Mrs. Susie (Sue) Coggins Gerst, 88 of Ironwood Place in Lake Blackshear, GA, 
former resident of Albany died August 3, 2007 at her residence.

Mrs. Gerst was a member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church, 
Charter Member of The Fellowship Sunday School Class and Life Member of United 
Methodist Women. She was a native of and educated in Pike County, Georgia and 
worked at The Naval Ordinance Plant in Macon during World War II before moving 
to Albany in 1945. She worked briefly at the Trailways Bus Terminal until 
marrying in 1947. She was a homemaker and a member of AARP and spent most of 
her time volunteering for activities which involved her family and church. She 
was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. 

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years: Melvin (Dink) 
Francis Gerst, her beloved daughter, Judy Frances Gerst Flegel and her brothers 
& sisters, Grace Coggins, Louise Coggins, James Coggins, Mary Lou Coggins, John 
Coggins, Frances Coggins Taylor and Beecky Coggins Moseley Survivors include 
her daughter Patricia (Patty) Sue Gerst of Lake Blackshear, formally of Albany, 
one grandson, Matthew Corey Flegel of Lake Blackshear, formally of Albany, many 
nieces, nephews and cousins. Those desiring, please make memorials to 
Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church, 2200 Dawson Road Albany, GA.

Leukemia-Lymphoma Society, Georgia Chapter, 3715 Northside Parkway, 400 
Northcreek, Suite 300, Atlanta, GA. 30327. 

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Kimbrell-
Stern.The funeral service will be Monday 2 PM at Kimbrell-Stern. Rev. Nancy 
Scarbrough and Rev. Betty Lou Miller officiating. Interment will follow in 
Crown Hill Cemetery.
