Travis Chatman

ALBANY — Travis "Kip" Chatman, 81, of Oakfield, GA, died Tuesday, December 24, 
2002, at Crisp Regional Hospital.

His funeral service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern with interment 
to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Dale Thornton will officiate.

A native of Colquitt County, Mr. Chatman had lived in Albany since 1926. He 
attended local schools and graduated from Albany High School in the class of 
1939. He enlisted in the US Air Force and served as a ground crew mechanic for 
bombers in Italy. His first aircraft was a B-17 Flying Fortress. That plane 
flew and returned from 83 bombing missions before the plane was retired. He was 
honorably discharged in October of 1945. Mr. Chatman began work with Southern 
Bell on October 22, 1945, and worked there for 37 years until his retirement. 
Mr. Chatman was a member of the Methodist faith and attended the Avalon Men's 
Bible Class.

Survivors include his wife, Leona Carroll Chatman of Oakfield, GA; two sons, 
Dan Chatman of Oakfield and Dixon Chatman and his wife Denise of Leesburg; two 
grandchildren, Chris Chatman and Ashley Chatman; a sister, Wilma Adams and her 
husband Lee of Albany; a brother, Max Chatman and his wife Bobbie of Worth 
County; a daughter-in-law, Faye Chatman of Athens; and a number of nieces and 
nephews.

The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern on Thursday from 1 p.m. until 
the funeral hour.
