The Albany Herald - Obituaries
Jane Kay Bradley

ALBANY — Mrs. Jane Kay Bradley born August 17, 1919, died May 7, 2006, at the
age of 86. Jane suffered from Alzheimer's disease for the last 11 years of her
life. For the first 75 years, however, she was a wonderful person with a
wonderful life.

Jane was the daughter of Margie Redus Kay and Benjamin Herbert Kay. She grew up
in Albany, GA, with her sister, Betty Kay Higgins. Jane graduated from Albany
High School in 1936 (with the Girls of '36) and went to Huntington College. She
studied acting at summer stock in New England and was an actress, director and
president for the Little Theater of Albany. She was instrumental in securing
and renovating the building that the Little Theater occupies today. She starred
in many plays, including "Come Back, Little Sheba and Blithe Spirit", and she
directed many hits including "The Fantastiks". She married the late Robert Otis
Bradley (Brad) at the age of 29 after pursuing a career with Champion Seed
Company. Brad was also active in the Little Theater, building sets and painting
scenery for his wife, Jane.

Jane gave birth to Sarah Redus Bradley (Sally) in 1953 and Betty Jane Bradley
(Betsy) in 1955. She was a devoted, gentle, loving mother with, as next-door-
neighbor Tom Jones, said "a bright spirit." She was active in the Junior League
of Albany, serving twice as president when the Junior Service League was
becoming the Junior League of Albany. She was active in the Follies. She was a
member of First United Methodist Church and she raised her daughters in the
church. She could sew anything, making beautiful custom clothes for her sister
and herself while growing up, and for her daughters. She crocheted a baby
afghan for every one of her 5 grandchildren, John Thomas Bradley, Sarah Rose
McGuire, Maureen Kay McGuire, Austin Bradley McGuire and Timothy Kevin McGuire
Jr.

Jane loved all of her family, including her sister, Betty, her brother-in-law,
the late Guy Moore Higgins Sr.; her niece, Kay Higgins Denton Smith; Kay's
daughter, Katie Denton; her nephew, Guy Higgins, Jr. and his wife, Debbie.
Before he died, Guy Higgins, Sr., said of his sister-in-law, Jane, "She was
always kind. She never did anything that she thought would hurt someone."

Widowed and on her own in mid-life, Jane worked for over 10 years as a
decorator at Sears, designing draperies and window treatments for her customers.

Jane was a faithful, loving wife, a gentle mother filled with unconditional
love and concern for her children, a loyal friend, a hard worker, an involved
community member and a beautiful person. Intelligent, lively and creative, she
will be sorely missed by her daughters, her family and her friends.

Visitation for Jane and her family will be held on Sunday, May 14th, from 7 PM
to 8 PM at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors, in Albany, GA.

Services will begin at 10 AM on Monday, May 15th, at First United Methodist
Church in the sanctuary. Burial services will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery on
Dawson Rd. Friends and family are invited to gather at the home of Mrs. William
T. Jones (Polly) and Tom Jones, 1805 Valley Rd. after the services conclude.

You may sign the guestbook and share your own special thoughts and memories
with the family of Mrs. Bradley by visiting Kimbrell-Stern's website at
