Eugene C. Black Sr.

ALBANY — Eugene C. Black Sr., 78, of Albany, died Friday night, January 31, 
2003, at the VA Hospital in Dublin, GA. His funeral service will be Monday, 3 
p.m. at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church, with interment to follow 
at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Nancy Scarbrough and the Rev. Nathan Godley 
will officiate.

A native of The Rock, GA, he moved to Albany in 1949 to open his law practice. 
He attended R.E. Lee High School in Thomaston, GA, and Gordon Military College. 
He was a graduate of the University of Georgia Law School. He was a veteran of 
WWII serving in the 99th. Division of the 3rd Army, his unit participating in 
the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Black was a member of Porterfield Memorial United 
Methodist Church. He had taught Sunday School for many years at the First 
United Methodist Church and at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church. In 
addition to his law practice, Mr. Black served as juvenile court judge for 18 
years. Judge Black was a member of the Dougherty County Kiwanis Club and a 
member of the Hasan Shrine.

A beloved husband and father, he leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, 
Frances Loosier Black of Albany; two sons, Gene Black Jr. of Albany and Collier 
F. Black and his wife, Peggie of Ponte Vedra, FL; five grandchildren, Rebecca 
Louise Black, Paul VanDyke Black, Margaret McElroy, Charlotte Mineo, Collier P. 
Black; a brother-in-law, O.F. "Spec" Loosier and his wife, Elizabeth of Albany; 
and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Call of Cayce, SC.

The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern today (Sunday) from 3 p.m.-5 
p.m.
