     Bertha H. Beckham
     Elberton
         Bertha Hartsell Beckham, 86, of Nancy Hart Nursing Center died
     Friday, Dec. 27, 1996.
         A native of Cabarrus County, N.C., Mrs. Beckham was a daughter
     of the late Samuel Joshua Hartsell and Lula Jane Dearmon Hartsell.
     She was a widow of Calvin C. Beckham. She was preceded in death by
     a son, Harold C. Beckham. She was a member of Calvery Presbyterian
     Church, Elberton, and Order of the Eastern Star. She was a graduate
     of Mercy School of Nursing, Charlotte, N.C., and was a retired
     registered nurse.
         Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Berry Funeral
     Home with the Rev. Mike Maxfield officiating. Graveside services
     will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Bethel United Methodist Church
     Cemetery, Winnsboro, S.C., with the Rev. Fred McDaniel officiating.
         Survivors include a son, Ralph S. Beckham, Newberry, S.C.; a
     brother, Frank Hartsell, Albemarle, N.C.; nine grandchildren; 11
     great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
         Pallbearers will be Richard Beckham, Calvin Beckham, Robert
     Beckham, Mike Seymour, Jarred Beckham and Darrell Witcher.
         The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Seymour,
     561 Jones St., Elberton, and will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at
     the funeral home.
         Memorials may be sent to Calvery Presbyterian Church, Elberton.
     T. Hugh Cordell
     Elberton
         Thomas Hugh Cordell, 65, of 1754 Coldwater Road died Friday,
     Dec. 27, 1996.
         A native of Hart County, Mr. Cordell was a son of the late
     Thomas Albert Cordell and Fannie Shiflet Cordell. He was preceded
     in death by a son, Gregory Hugh Cordell. He was owner and operator
     of Cordell's Grocery and was a farmer. He was a former owner and
     operator of Cordell's Construction Co., Atlanta. He was of the
     Baptist faith.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Sardis Baptist
     Church with Drs. Marshall Tribble and Dan Vincent officiating. The
     body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. today. Burial will
     be in the church cemetery.
         Survivors include his wife, Wanda Gaines Cordell; a daughter,
     Debbie Phillips, St. Marys; three sisters, Minnie Sue Dyar and June
     Hilley, both of Hartwell, and Naomi Hope, Dewey Rose; and two
     grandchildren.
         Strickland Funeral Home, Hartwell, is in charge of
     arrangements.
     J.B. Danner
     Tignall
         Joseph Benjamin "J.B." Danner, 64, of 420 Jones Chapel Church
     Road died Friday, Dec. 27, 1996.
         A lifelong resident of Wilkes County, Mr. Danner was a son of
     Corrie Bowers Danner, Tignall, and the late Robert Toombs Danner.
     He was an insurance salesman and was a former owner and operator of
     Danner Tire & Supply. He was a field representative for Woodmen of
     the World, a beef farmer and a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church,
     where he was a member of the church choir, a deacon and former
     chairman of deacons.
         Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Jo-Anne
     Denard Danner; two sons, Randy Danner and Ricky Danner, both of
     Tignall; a brother, Robert L. "Bobby" Danner, Tignall; a sister,
     Mary Lenna Danner Weaver, Conyers; and three grandchildren.
         Pallbearers will be Michael Danner, Wade Danner, Rocky Denard,
     Brad Denard, Shane Denard, Donnie Weaver, Ernie Denard and Johnny
     Weaver.
         Memorials may be sent to Wills Memorial Hospital Foundation,
     c/o the Respiratory Care Department.
         The family will be at the residence.

         Howard Andrew "Bud" Davenport of 984 Martin Luther King Parkway
     died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996.

     Baptist Church, Lexington. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

     Elizabeth Deschner
     El Dorado, Kan.
         Elizabeth Anne Deschner, 90, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996.
         A native of Glen Elder, Kan., Mrs. Deschner was a daughter of
     the late William Henry and Ida Amelia Gladow Schroth. She was a
     widow of Alvin Henry Deschner and was preceded in death by two
     brothers. She was a legal secretary for Connell & Connell and was a
     member of First Presbyterian Church, El Dorado, and Desk & Derrick
     and Legal Secretaries.
         Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Carlson Funeral
     Home, El Dorado. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in
     Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit, Kan.
         Survivors include two daughters, Jo Anne Lowe, Athens, and
     Marcia Jean Snow, El Dorado; and four grandchildren.
         Memorials for First Presbyterian Church may be sent to Carlson
     Funeral Home, El Dorado, Kan.
         The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral
     home.
     Mae Patton Dodd
     Lula
         Mae Patton Dodd, 96, died Friday, Dec. 27, 1996.
         A native of Banks County, Mrs. Dodd was a daughter of the late
     Leonard Miller and Meadie Davidson Miller Wallace. She was a widow
     of Andrew Patton and Tedd Dodd. She was preceded in death by a
     brother, Robert Miller; and a daughter, Willie Mae Patton. She was
     a homemaker and a member of Enon Baptist Church.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Enon Baptist Church
     with the Rev. Paul Morris officiating. The body will be placed in
     the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
         Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Caudelle, Lula; a
     sister, Willie R. Hawkins, Lula; a brother, Deck Miller, Lula; a
     grandson; and a great-grandson.

     Mae Newman Ginn
     Cornelia
         Mae Newman Ginn, 93, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 1996.
         A native of Meriwether County, Mrs. Ginn was a daughter of the
     late Robert and Mollie Brown Newman. She was the widow of E. Roscoe
     Ginn. She had worked at Carwood Manufacturing Co., Winder, and was
     a manager of Goodwill Store, East Atlanta. She was a member of
     Cornelia First United Methodist Church.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Whitfield Funeral
     Home with the Rev. Terry Phillips officiating. Graveside services
     and burial will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Midway United Methodist
     Church Cemetery, Carl.
         Survivors include a daughter, Frances G. Brooks, Cornelia; two
     grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

     Julia Harris
     Elberton
         Julia Starke Harris, 82, of Spring Valley Health Care Center
     died Friday, Dec. 27, 1996.
         A native of Elbert County, Mrs. Harris was a daughter of the
     late Tom and Elizabeth Auld Starke. She was a widow of Walton Y.
     Harris. She was a retired teacher and a member of Elberton First
     Presbyterian Church.
         Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Elmhurst
     Cemetery with the Rev. Glenn Gilstrap officiating.
         Survivors include several cousins.
         In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to a charity of
     choice.

     Funeral Home, Elberton.
     Lavaughn Ivey
     Bethlehem
         Lavaughn "Doc" Ivey, 53, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 1996.
         A native of Jackson County, Mr. Ivey was a son of Sibyl Manning
     Ivey, Bethlehem, and the late Clarence Ivey.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Smith's Memory
     Chapel with the Rev. John Richardson officiating. Burial will be in
     Barrow Memorial Gardens.
         Survivors include two brothers, William "Sonny" Ivey,
     Bethlehem, and Darrell Ivey, Bethlehem.

     Home, Winder. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today at the funeral
     home.
     Dwaine B. Keller
     Toccoa
         Dwaine Brinson Keller, 77, of 301 Tom Watson Andres Road died
     Friday, Dec. 27, 1996.
         A native of Franklin County, Mr. Keller was a son of the late
     Lewis Watson Keller and Alpha Lavona Stewart Keller. He was
     preceded in death by two sons. He was retired from Coats & Clark
     and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
         Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at New Hope Baptist
     Church with the Revs. Jewell Gaines and Don Nester officiating.
     Burial will be in the church cemetery.
         Survivors include a son, Allen Keller, Toccoa; a daughter,
     Dorothy Ann Eavenson, Carnesville; three brothers, Jim Keller and
     Kenneth Keller, both of Toccoa, and Fred Keller, Lithonia; four
     sisters, Lutrelle Whiten and Inez Brown, both of Toccoa, Estelle
     Williams, Eastanollee, and Cortez Fulbright, Carnesville; five
     grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

     Mortuary, Toccoa.

     John W. Kinney
     Bishop
         John William Kinney, 74, of 1243 Elder Road died Saturday, Dec.
     28, 1996.
         A native of Barrow County, Mr. Kinney was a son of the late
     Robert Vivian and Alice Edgar Kinney. He was preceded in death by a
     brother, Rabun V. Kinney. He was an Army veteran of World War II,
     and a member of Madison Masonic Lodge and Briarwood Baptist Church,
     where he attended the Adult Men's Sunday School Class.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Briarwood Baptist
     Church with the Rev. Dan Fuller officiating. Burial will be in
     Evergreen Memorial Park.
         Survivors include his wife, Clara Belle Kinney; a daughter,
     Phyllis Griffin, Athens; a son, Phillip W. Kinney, Watkinsville; a
     sister, Reba Hammond, Bogart; seven grandchildren; three
     great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers
     will be Don Hammond, Doug Hammond, Dwight Kinney, David Adcock,
     Terry Stephens and Emerson Haygood.

     Elberton
         Mozelle Hammond Mize, 96, of 356 N. McIntosh St. died Saturday,
     Dec. 28, 1996.
         A native of Elbert County, Mrs. Mize was a daughter of the late
     Jep Hammond and Popey Dye Hammond. She was a widow of Robert W.
     Mize Sr. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert W. "Butch" Mize
     Jr. She was a homemaker and a member of Order of the Eastern Star,
     Daughters of the American Revolution and Elberton First Baptist
     Church.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Berry Funeral Home
     with the Rev. Gary Purvis and Dr. C.E. Jackson III officiating.
     Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery.
         Survivors include two sons, Hammond Mize, Elberton, and Charles
     R. Mize, Augusta; a sister, Louise Atkinson, Elberton; 10
     grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a
     great-great-grandchild.
         Pallbearers will be Charles Mize, Larry Mize, Curt Mize, Robert
     W. Mize III, Matt Brown and Steve Childs.

     Fred C. Poulnot Sr.
     Athens
         Fred C. Poulnot Sr., 75, of 670 Rivermont Road died Friday,
     Dec. 27, 1996.
         A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Poulnot was a son of the
     late William David and Annie Belle Spinks Poulnot. He was a widower
     of Martha Estelle Sims Poulnot. He retired from the Army after 30
     years of service, attaining the rank of master sergeant. He was a
     veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and was awarded two
     Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. He was a
     member of Church of God Seventh Day, Kennesaw.
         Graveside services, with full military honors, will be at 2
     p.m. today in Sims Cemetery with the Rev. John Pinkston
     officiating.
         Survivors include a daughter, Cecelia S. Spurlin, High Shoals;
     a son, Fred C. Poulnot Jr., Mary Esther, Fla.; a sister, Florene
     Little, Lexington; and a brother, Carl Poulnot, Fort Valley.
         The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at
     Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, and will be at the residence.

         Paul W. Smith of 1386 W. Hancock Ave. died Friday, Dec. 27,
     1996.

     Memorial Park.

     White Plains
         Joel "Joe" David Taylor, 60, of 1311 Jordan Mill Road died
     Friday, Dec. 27, 1996.
         A lifelong resident of Greene County, Mr. Taylor was a son of
     Ruth S. Taylor, White Plains, and the late Joel Holcomb Taylor. A
     1955 graduate of Greensboro High School, he was a shipping clerk
     for Sparta Manufacturing and a member of White Plains Methodist
     Church.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at White Plains
     Methodist Church with the Rev. Lyle Allen officiating. Burial will
     be in White Plains Cemetery.
         Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a son, Ricky
     Taylor, White Plains; two sisters, Ann T. Cook, Washington, and
     Edith T. Meeler, New Ellenton, S.C.; and a brother, Wayne Taylor,
     White Plains.
