     Carl Jackson
     Athens
         Carl Sidney Jackson, 79, of 401 Club Drive died Wednesday,
     Sept. 18, 1996.
         A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Jackson was a son of the
     late Harry and Blonnie Chambers Jackson. He was the widower of
     Emily Atria Jackson. He was an Army veteran who served in the
     Philippines and New Guyana. He worked for the Clarke County school
     system as a landscaper and was of the Baptist faith.
         Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Bernstein Chapel,
     with the Rev. Jon Appleton officiating. Interment will be in
     Evergreen Memorial Park.
         Survivors include two sons, Richard N. Tully, Patchogue, N.Y.,
     and James B. Tully, Bayport, N.Y.; a daughter, Carol J. McClatchey,
     Atlanta; four sisters, Hazel Nixon, Sara Bridges, Louise Ayers and
     Helen Burgess, all of Athens; 11 grandchildren; and nine
     great-grandchildren.
         The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Bernstein
     Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The
     Georgia Conservancy, 1776 Peachtree Street, N.W., Suite 400 South,
     Atlanta, Ga., 30309.
     Mable McMillan
     Athens
         Mable Louise McMillan, 62, of 145 Brookwood Drive died
     Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996.
         A native of Clarke County, Miss McMillan was a daughter of Nina
     Yarborough Johnson and the late T.R. Johnson Sr. She was a widow of
     Charles E. McMillan. She was a retired emergency admissions clerk
     for Athens Regional Medical Center and was a member of Tuckston
     United Methodist Church.
         Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Tuckston United
     Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Herb Owen officiating.
         Survivors include, in addition to her mother, two sons, David
     McMillan, Athens, and Charlie McMillan, Bogart; a daughter, Debbie
     Welch, Athens; a brother, T.R. Johnson Jr., Gainesville; a sister,
     Marguerite Neilson, Marietta; four grandchildren; and nieces and
     nephews.
         The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Lord &
     Stephens Funeral Home, East.
     Katharine Freeze
     Winder
         Katharine Freeze, 71, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996, at Barrow
     Medical Center.
         A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., who lived in Winder for 22
     years, Mrs. Freeze was a daughter of the late Grady and Talmar
     Cronic Jones. She was the widow of C.V. Freeze. She was a member of
     First Baptist Church, Winder.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Wise-Connolly
     Funeral Home. Interment will be at Pentecost United Methodist
     Church Cemetery.
         Survivors include a daughter, Geraldine Walters, Brentwood,
     Calif.; four sisters, Erma Kennedy, Canton, Helen Harbor, Fairburn,
     Peggy Lackey, North Carolina, and Carmen McClain, Wilmington, N.C.;
     a half-brother, Jimmy Timms; and nieces and nephews.
         The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral
     home.

     Horace Reed
     Danielsville
         Horace Reed, 67, of Route 2, Box 2085, died Tuesday, Sept. 17,
     1996.
         A native of Banks County, Mr. Reed was a son of the late Ed and
     Cora Veal Reed. He was a cattle and poultry farmer, an Army veteran
     of the Korean War, an honorary member of Danielsville VFW Post 8377
     and was of the Baptist faith.
         Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Brown Funeral
     Home chapel, Danielsville, the Rev. Albert Vaughn officiating.
     Burial will be in the Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers
     will be Sonny Belk, Hoppy Royston, Banister Sexton, Nelson Stovell,
     Aubrey Thomason and Will Lindsey.
         He is survived by his wife, Joyce Sweetser Reed; two sons,
     Danny and Eddy Reed, both of Danielsville; a daughter, Vickie
     Kilpatrick, Danielsville; six sisters, Janie Sue Hewell and Shirley
     Morris, both of Gillsville, Mary Cromer, Commerce, Gladys
     Fitzgerald, Tempe, Ariz., Joyce Dale, Atlanta, and Maxine Clark,
     Buffalo, Ind.; three grandchildren, Melanie and Kevin Reed and
     Matthew Kilpatrick.
         The family is at the residence and will receive friends 7-9
     p.m. today at the funeral home.
     Gary Simon
     Houston
         The Rev. Gary Lee Simon, a former Athens resident, died
     Saturday, Sept. 14, 1996.
         Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Greater Light
     Baptist Church, 8802 Kelburn St., Houston, Texas, with the Rev.
     Darryl Broussard officiating.

     Willie Mae Adams
     Danielsville
         Willie Mae Evans Adams, 95, of Route 3 died Tuesday, Sept. 17,
     1996, at Cobb Memorial Hospital.
         A native of Madison County, Mrs. Adams was a daughter of the
     late Lum and Heppie Beard Evans. She was the widow of Omer L.
     "Jack" Adams. She was a homemaker and a member of Jones Chapel
     United Methodist Church.
         Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Community Baptist
     Church with the Revs. David Strickland and Ray Jenkins officiating.
     The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be
     in the church cemetery.
         Survivors include four sons, Herman, Andrew and Bill Adams, all
     of Danielsville, and Branson Adams, Royston; four daughters, Edna
     Allen, Martin, Aurelia Drake, Danielsville, Rebecca Gunnin, Ila,
     and Eleanor Fitzpatrick, Poca; three sisters, Dell Dove and Nell
     Highland, both of Comer, and Mary McEwen, Danielsville; 25
     grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and five
     great-great-grandchildren.
         Grandsons will be pallbearers. The family is at the home.

     Gregory Ward
     Jefferson
         Gregory Michael Ward, 28, of 5080 Brockton Road died Tuesday,
     Sept. 17, 1996, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
         A native of Atlanta, Mr. Ward was a son of Patricia Ward,
     Braselton, and Dennis R. Ward, Jefferson. He was a member of
     Bethany United Methodist Church.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bethany United
     Methodist Church with the Rev. Hulon Hill officiating. Burial will
     be in the church cemetery.
         Survivors include, in addition to his parents, a brother, Bryan
     R. Ward, Pendergrass; a sister, Denise Colette Smith, Athens; and a
     grandmother, Mrs. Johnnie Kesler.

     Harry Atkinson Jr.
     Statham
         Harry C. Atkinson Jr., 54, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 1996.
         A native of Fulton County, Mr. Atkinson was a son of Pauline
     Atkinson, Statham, and the late Harry C. Atkinson. He was a member
     of the board of Mortgage Bank Association and was a member of Union
     Baptist Church.
         Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Baptist
     Church with the Rev. Jimmy Elliot, the Rev. Ray Newman, Dr. R.C.
     Newman and Richard Flower officiating. Interment will be at Barrow
     Memorial Gardens.
         Survivors include, in addition to his wife, Jodee Atkinson,
     Statham; three daughters, Darla Lacey, Acworth, Tracie Atkinson,
     Brandon, Fla., and Jennifer Morris, Winder; four brothers, Edward,
     James, Michael and Jeff Atkinson, all of Lawrenceville; a sister,
     Paula Hurlesson, San Diego, Calif.; and a grandson.

     Eric McCutcheon
     Clarkesville
         Eric McCutcheon, 17, died Monday, Sept. 16, 1996.
         A native of Banning, Calif., Mr. McCutcheon was a son of David
     and Glenda McCutcheon, Clarksville. He was a senior at Habersham
     Central High School. He was a member of Return Baptist Church and
     attended Liberty Baptist Church.
         Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Return Baptist
     Church with the Rev. Walter Burrell and the Rev. Randy Chaffin
     officiating. Burial will be in the church's cemetery.
         Survivors include, in addition to his parents, two sisters,
     Tamara Stafford, Banning, Calif., and Melissa Goguen, Clarkesville;
     and two grandparents, Leo McCutcheon, Lillington, N.C., and Billie
     Whitlock, Mount Airy.

     Toccoa
         Frances Goode Page, 79, of Atlanta, formerly of Toccoa, died
     Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996, at Briarcliff Haven Nursing Center,
     Atlanta.
         A Stephens County native, Mrs. Page was a daughter of the late
     Thomas O. and Lottie Smith Goode. She was the widow of Norman Page.
     She was retired from Coastal States Insurance Co. with 27 years of
     service and was of the Presbyterian faith.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of
     Whitlock Mortuary. Burial will follow in Toccoa City Cemetery.
         Survivors include a son, Billy Don Adams, Atlanta; two
     brothers, Owen Goode, Barnwell, S.C., and Thomas Goode, Norcross;
     and three sisters, Emily Brooks, Talmo, Doris Thompson, Lincoln,
     Ill., and Mary Lanham, Alliance, Ohio.

     Frances Meeks

         Frances Marjorie Meeks, 88, of Acworth, formerly of Smyrna,
     died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996.
         Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Castellaw Funeral
     Home chapel, with the Rev. Bruce Hembrick officiating. Interment
     will be at 3:30 p.m. at Carnes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
         Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ruth Gibson, Acworth; a son,
     Joel Meeks, Acworth; a sister, Nell Payne, Toccoa; a brother, Bill
     Smith, Toccoa; four grandchildren; three great-children; and nieces
     and nephews.

     Betty Miller
     Tucker
         Betty Ann Stinespring Miller, 77, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 1996.
         A native of Habersham County, Mrs. Miller was a daughter of the
     late Curtis P. and Mary Green Stinespring. She was the widow of Joe
     Miller. She was a former employee of Georgia Power and was a member
     of Briarcliff United Methodist Church.
         Survivors include a son, Allen Miller, Athens; two sisters,
     Ruth Stoffregen, Cornelia, and Mary Sue Crawford, Toccoa; two
     brothers, Curtis Stinespring, Cornelia, and Frank Stinespring,
     Toccoa; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

         Lakeshia Joy Gordon, 15, of 380 Lexington Heights died
     Saturday, Sept. 14, 1996.
         A native of Clarke County, Miss Gordon was a daughter of Torial
     Denise Thrasher and Lamar Fontaine Gordon, both of Athens. She was
     a stepdaughter of Charlie Mitchell, Athens.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Mount Zion Baptist
     Church, Hull, with the Rev. Kenneth Elder officiating. The body
     will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will be at East Lawn
     Memorial Park.
         Survivors include, in addition to her parents, a brother,
     Frederick Thrasher, Athens, a half-sister, Khaslijah Nuriddin,
     Athens; a half-brother, Jamaris Barnett, Athens; and a
     great-grandmother, Addie Gordon, Athens.
     Elizabeth Morgan
     Fayetteville, N.C.
         Elizabeth M. Morgan, 58, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 1996.
         A native of Hall County, Miss Morgan was a daughter of the late
     William H. McWhorter and Effie McWhorter Stewart.
         Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Buckhead City
     Cemetery with the Rev. David Lemons and the Rev. Jon Appleton
     officiating.
         Survivors include, in addition to her mother, three daughters,
     Leigh Rodgers, Fayetteville, N.C., Lilias Skilbred, Boulder, N.C.,
     and Kathryn Marsh, Big Pine Key, Fla.; and two brothers, William
     Harrison McWhorter, Swainsboro, and Dr. Robert F. McWhorter,
