     Carolyn Self
     Winder
         Carolyn "Jeanette" Self, 56, died Friday, Oct. 11, 1996.
         A native of Barrow County, Ms. Self was a daughter of the late
     R.B. Manders and Nellie Manders Silcox.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in Rose Hill Cemetery
     with the Revs. Kenneth Brewer and Carl Fowler officiating.
         Survivors include a son, Vaughn Self, Winder; a sister,
     Charlotte Parks, Auburn; and a nephew.
         Smith Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
     Mellie M. Lord
     Commerce
         Mellie Magdalene Lord, 82, of 2458 N. Broad St. died Friday,
     Oct. 11, 1996.
         A native of Jackson County, Ms. Lord was a daughter of the late
     Charles and Magdalene Hendrix Lord. She was a cutter for Blue Bell
     Manufacturing and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
         Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Little-Ward Funeral
     Home with the Rev. Brad Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Grey
     Hill Cemetery. The body will be placed in the funeral home chapel
     at 2:30 p.m.
         Survivors include a sister, Mae Rice, Commerce.
         Memorials may be made to the Mount Olive Baptist Church Organ
     Fund.
     Scott Sell
     Hoschton
         Scott Sell, 33, died Friday, Oct. 11, 1996.
         A native of Clarke County, Mr. Sell was a son of W.H. and Edna
     Sell of Hoschton. He was a 1980 graduate of Jackson County High
     School and attended Abraham Baldwin College and Gainesville Junior
     College. He was a sales manager at West Tree Nursery and a member
     of Hoschton Baptist Church.
         Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hoschton Baptist
     Church with the Revs. Ricky Thrasher and Oscar Crosby officiating.
     Burial will be in Hoschton Cemetery. The body will be placed in the
     church at 10:30 a.m..
         Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Rena
     C. Sell; a daughter, Rebecca Sell, Hoschton; a brother, Shannon
     Sell, Hoschton; and a grandmother, Ruby Reece, Winder.
         In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hoschton Baptist
     Church.
         The family will receive friends after noon today at Smith
     Funeral Home, Winder.
     Corine W. Johnson
     Commerce
         Corine White Johnson, 83, of Route 2, Box 456, died Wednesday,
     Oct. 9, 1996.
         A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the
     late Julius and Eula Knox White and the widow of Edgar Johnson. She
     was a member of King Branch Baptist Church, Carnesville.
         Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at King Branch
     Baptist Church with the Revs. James Ramey and William Jennings
     officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
         Survivors include three sons, Julious Johnson and Larry
     Johnson, both of Commerce, and Roger Johnson, Athens; six
     daughters, Betty F. Borders, Annie L. Stewart, Eufolia A. Johnson,
     Eula B. Stallings, Sarah F. Johnson and Katherine Grant, all of
     Commerce; a brother, D.S. White, Milwaukee, Wis.; a sister, Lillie
     Mae Law, Atlanta; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and
     four great-great-grandchildren.
         The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at
     Moss-Stovall-Neal Funeral Home, Toccoa.
     Lois Bettis
     Athens
         Margaret Lois Shaw Bettis, 81, of 3011 Lawton Lane died
     Saturday, Oct. 12, 1996.
         A native of Madison County, Mrs. Bettis was a daughter of the
     late Leck and Bertha Nelms Shaw and the widow of George C. Bettis.
     She was a retired textile worker and a member of Francis Asbury
     Methodist Church, Elberton.
         Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Brown Funeral
     Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Steve Stephens officiating.
     Burial will be in Meadow Baptist Church Cemetery.
         Survivors include a son, Nelson Bettis, Hull; a daughter,
     Camilla Hammond, Athens; a brother, Earnest Shaw, Winder; a sister,
     Elizabeth Webb, Winterville; four grandchildren, Dameron May, Hull,
     and Greta Bettis, Nick Bettis and Joe Hammond Jr., all of Athens;
     and four great-grandchildren.
       &n bsp; Pallbearers will be Nick Bettis, Dale May Jr., Joe Holden
     and James Mullins.
         The family is at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Bettis,
     Beverly Drive, Hull, and will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the
     funeral home.
     Van Worthy Jr.
     Athens
         Van Kermit Worthy Jr., 55, of 134 Westover Drive died Saturday,
     Oct. 12, 1996.
         A native of Griffin, Mr. Worthy was a son of Van K. Worthy Sr.
     and Mattie W. Worthy of Athens. He was a member of Prince Avenue
     Baptist Church.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Lord & Stephens
     Funeral Home, West, Bogart, with the Rev. Bill Ricketts
     officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
         Survivors, in addition to his parents, include a sister, Monisa
     Smith, Athens; two nieces; and a great-nephew.
         Pallbearers will be Casey Worthy, John Wilson, Mike Worthy,
     Garnett Nash and John Gore.
         The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral
     home.
     Mary G. Ruark
     Watkinsville
         Mary Guthery Ruark, 89, of N. High Scholas Road, died Friday,
     Oct. 11, 1996.
         A native of Athens, Tenn., Mrs. Ruark was a daughter of the
     late Walter and Keturan Hutsell Guthery and the widow of the Rev.
     Emory L. Ruark. She was preceded in death by a stepson, E. Kelley
     Ruark. She was a homemaker and a member of Madison Church of God,
     where she was pianist and a Sunday School teacher.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bernstein Funeral
     Home with the Rev. J.T. Willoughby officiating. Burial will be in
     Oconee Hill Cemetery.
         Survivors include four sons, Charles G. Ruark, Atlanta, Joseph
     Ruark, Madison, Hubert Ruark, Clarkesville, and Robert Ruark,
     Cornelia; a daughter, Frances Tumlin, Athens; two grandchildren;
     eight stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
         The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at
     the funeral home.
     Vivian N. Donovan
     Jacksonville, Fla.
         Vivian Nadine Donovan, 80, formerly of Toccoa, died Saturday,
     Oct. 12, 1996.
         A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Donovan was a daughter of
     the late Samuel Lingle and Mildred Haskins Smart and the widow of
     Patrick Edward Donovan.
         Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Marys
     Catholic Church, Toccoa, with Father Paul Flood officiating. Burial
     will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
         Survivors include two sons, Jack Donovan and Tom Donovan; a
     stepson, Fletcher H. Seals, Jacksonville; a stepdaughter, Margaret
     A. Knabb, Jacksonville; two brothers, Roy H. Smart, Miami, and
     Barney G. Smart, Lanexa, Va.; seven grandchildren; and four
     great-grandchildren.
         Whitlock Mortuary, Toccoa, is in charge of local arrangements.
     Ossie F. Whitlock
     Atlanta
         Ossie Fulbright Whitlock, 93, formerly of Toccoa, died Friday,
     Oct. 11, 1996.
         A native of Stephens County, Mrs. Whitlock was a daughter of
     the late W.L. and Lula Medlin Fulbright and the widow of John J.
     Whitlock. She was a retired teacher with Beulah Heights Bible
     College and received an honorary doctorate degree from William
     Carter Bible College, Goldsboro, N.C.
         Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Whitlock Mortuary,
     Toccoa, with the Revs. Raymond J. Reboulet, Clifford Edwards and
     Hayward Clark officiating. Burial will be in Stephens Memorial
     Gardens.
         Survivors include four sisters, Wilder Cheek, Macie Deal, Jewel
     Powers and Leola Hughes, all of Toccoa; two brothers, Clinton
     Fulbright and Angress Fulbright, both of Toccoa; and several nieces
     and nephews.
         Pallbearers will be Bruce Fulbright, Dwight Fulbright, Carlos
     Fulbright, Kenneth Deal, Eddie Powers and George Powers.
         The family is at the home of Macie Deal, Mize Road, Toccoa.
