Mrs. Hazel Thomas Walker, 84 (7-1-2001) Pierce Co. native

BLACKSHEAR-Mrs. Hazel Thomas Walker, 84, died early
Sunday morning (July 1, 2001) at the Pierce County
Nursing Home, following an extended illness. She was
honored in 1986 as Pierce County Citizen of the Year and
she received a Distinguished Service Award from the
Georgia Farm Bureau in 1976. She was a homemaker and a
Baptist, and she was active for many years in the
Homemakers Club. A native and lifelong resident of Pierce
County, she was a daughter of the Rev. Ben Thomas and
Louise Howard Thomas. Her husband, Fleming Lloyd Walker,
died in Dec. 12, 1996 after they had been married for 58
years. Also preceding her in death were three sisters,
Bonnie Sweat, Modell Brantley and Delilah Thomas, and
four brothers, Arvie Lee Thomas, Estill Thomas, Benjamin
F. Thomas Jr. and Noel Thomas. She is survived by two
sons, Ray Walker (wife Feldeen) and Mike Walker, both of
Blackshear; three daughters, Carol Strickland (husband
Jimmy) of Blackshear, Vicki Anderson (husband Carroll) of
Claxton and Debbie Ledford (husband Duane) of
Thomasville; a brother, Arlen Thomas of Merritt Island,
Fla.; 11 grandchildren, nine greatgrandchildren, and
several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A funeral
service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the
chapel at Smith Funeral Home in Blackshear. Burial will
be in the Blackshear City Cemetery. Visitation is taking
place tonight from 7 until 9 o'clock at the funeral home.
Members of the Pierce County Nursing Home Auxiliary will
be honorary pallbearers and are asked to gather at the
funeral home at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Mrs. Edna Evelina Lamb, 88 (7-1-2001) Jeff Davis Co.
native (Music Funeral Home, Waycross) Mrs. Edna Evelina
Lamb, 88, died suddenly Sunday (July 1, 2001) in Satilla
Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Jeff Davis
County and resided in Jeff Davis County most of her life
before moving to Baptist Village in 1995. She was married
to the late Jimmie C. Lamb, Sr. and was daughter of the
late Austin E. Hand and Annie Jane Blanton Hand. She was
a member of Union Springs Baptist Church in Jeff Davis
County for many years, taught Sunday School for 30 years
and was a former member of the WMU. The survivors include
a daughter, Jacquelina Lamb Martin (husband Bill) of
Milledgeville; two sons, Jimmy C. Lamb, Jr. (wife
Virginia Jo) and Austin E. Lamb both of Waycross; a
sister, Ina Lou Fussell of Axson; a brother, Vernon Hand
of Mabelton; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2
great great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held
at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Union Springs Baptist
Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family
will be receiving friends at Music Funeral Home Monday
from 7 until 9 o clock. 

Elizabeth Anne Stickland, infant (6-30-2001) (Pearson-
Treadwell Funeral Home, Blackshear) ELIZABETH ANNE
STRICKLAND MERSHON-Elizabeth Anne Strickland, infant
daughter of Lonnie and Jennifer Anne Courson Strickland,
died Saturday evening (June 30, 2001) at the Satilla
Regional Medical Center in Waycross. The infant's
paternal grandfather was the late Wiley Shelton
Shtrickland. The survivors, in addition to othe parents,
include her maternal grandpaarents, Judy and Revis
Courson of Blackshear; her paternal grandparents, L. Dora
and B.W. Crump of Mershon; greatgrandmothers Angie
Courson of Blackshear and Flora B. Crump of Mershon; and
many other relatives. Funeral arrangements are incomplete
and will be announced later by Pearson Treadwell Funeral
Home of Blackshear.

Additional: Friday, July 6, 2001: Graveside service for
Elizabeth Anne Strickland, infant daughter of Lonnie and
Jennifer Anne Courson Strickland, will be held Saturday
at 10 a.m. at the Bristol Cemetery. The Rev. R.C. James
will officiate. Elizabeth passed away Saturday, June 30,
2001, at Satilla Regional Medical Center. In addition to
her parents, she is survived by her maternal
grandpaarents, Judy and Revis Courson of Blackshear; her
paternal grandparents, L. Dora and B.W. Crump of Mershon;
greatgrandmothers Angie Courson of Blackshear and Flora
B. Crump of Mershon; and several other relatives.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her grandfather, Wiley

Mr. Gene Tunney Bryan, 74 (7-1-2001) Hortense native
(Music Funeral Home, Waycross) Mr. Gene Tunney Bryan, 74,
died Sunday (July 1, 2001) at Satilla Regional Medical
Center. He is a native of Hortense, but he has lived most
of his life in Waycross. He is retired as a mechanic from
CSX Railroad. He also served in the merchant marines
during World War II. His parents were the late William
Benjamin Bryan and Rosa Bennett Bryan.  He is preceded in
death by his brother, Mack Dempsey. He is survived by his
two sons, Damon Bryan and William Bryan both of Waycross;
eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one
sister, Ruby Oglesby (husband Bill) of Waycross; two
nephews, Dale Oglesby of Atlanta, and Gene Oglesby of
Hortense; and one niece, Kathryn Oglesby of  Waycross. A
graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday (July
3, 2001) at Hortense Cemetery. The family will receive
friends 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at  Music Funeral
Home.

Overstreet, 85, died Tuesday morning (July 3, 2001) at
Satilla Care Center after a short illness. She is a
native of Appling County. She lived most of her life in
Appling County before moving to Waycross ten years ago.
She was a homemaker and affiliated with the Baptist
faith. Her parents were the late Robert Bryant Dykes and
Annie Elizabeth Pridgen Dykes. Her husband was the late
James E. Overstreet. She is survived by her two
daughters, Refreda (Nell) Lewis of Waycross, and Nadine
Prescott (husband Teddy S) of Henderson, TX; two sons,
John E. Murray of Waycross, and Jan E. Overstreet of
Tyler, TX; twelve grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren,
and thirteen great great grandchildren; and numerous
nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11
a.m. Thursday (July 5, 2001) at Music Funeral Home
Chapel. Burial will follow in Millikan Cemetery in
Appling County. The family will receive friends 7 until 9
p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

TOYE JACKIE DUBOSE BRUNSWICK-Mr. Toye Jackie Dubose, 69,
died Saturday (June 30, 2001) at the Southeast Georgia
Regional Medical Center. The funeral took place Tuesday
afternoon in the chapel at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral
Home and was followed by burial in the Palmetto Cemetery.
The Rev. Earl Dorminey and the Rev. Jack Dell officiated.
The pallbearers were Donnie Howell, Richard Howell,
Durwood Dubose, Thomas Edwards, Josh Trask and Mark
Evanoff. He is survived by a daughter, Audrey Dubose, and
two sons, Gary and Richy Dubose, all of Brunswick; four
brothers, J.M. Dubose and Fred Dubose, both of
Blackshear, and Joe Dubose and Sylvester Dubose, both of
Waycross; three sisters, Vannie Cady and Betty Lou Howell
of Waycross and Mertle King of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; 13
grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was a
Brantley County native but had lived in Glynn County for
the past 35 years. He was an electrician and had served
in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member
of Winokur Baptist Church in Brantley County and attended
Fellowship Methodist Church after moving to Glynn County.
"He was a faithful supporter of charities, especially
those involving children," said a family spokesman.
Memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude's Hospital
Memorial Fund, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Pigram Branson. He was retired from the Waycross Board of
Education and was a former employee of WalkerMcDonald
Chevrolet for 27 years. Mr. Branson was a member of
Williams Chapel Baptist Church. The survivors include a
daughter, Wanda Jackson James (husband Tommy) of
Waycross; a grandson, Rusty Jackson (wife Carmel) of
Waycross; three great grandchildren; four sisters, Virlie

retired Registered Nurse. She was a member of St. Josephs
Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband Richard

of the Jordan New Congregational Methodist Church. She
had worked for McKranie Meat Packing Company for
twentyThree years.  The survivors include her son, Huey
Davis of Callahan, FL; three sisters, Emma Crawley of
Jacksonville, FL, Faye Carver of Callahan, FL and
Kathleen Sawyer of Yulee, FL; two brothers, James
McKinnon of Waycross and Joe McKinnon of Jacksonville,
FL; four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and five

1 p.m. Monday (July 16, 2001) in the Music Funeral Home

chief voter registrar for Brantley County after serving
in that office for 20 years. She was a Brantley County
native and a member of Hickox Baptist Church. She was the
widow of Lyman Rowell and daughter of Patrick Henry
Blocker and Anna Elizabeth Wainright Blocker. Also
preceding her in death were a brother, Fred Blocker, and
two sisters, Doris Abrams and Lula Mae Herrin. She is
survived by three sons and daughtersinlaw, Bobby and
Joann Rowell, Billy and Wanda Rowell, and Pat and Patsy
Rowell, all of Nahunta; six grandchildren, Robert Rowell,
Sanya Baker, Anita Crews, Dean Rowell, Patrick Rowell and
Phillip Rowell; three sisters, Ruby Batten and Thelma
Harley, both of Nahunta, and Winnie Wainright of White
Oak, Ga.; and eight greatgrandchildren. There will be
visitation at Chambless Funeral Home tonight starting at
7 o'clock. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hickox
Baptist Church. Dr. W. Derrell Rentz and the Rev. Marvin
Smith will officiate. The church service will be followed
by burial at the New Hope Cemetery in the Hickox
community. The Hickox Baptist deacons will be honorary

NAHUNTA-Mr. David Morgan, 57, of Nahunta, died Sunday
evening (July 15, 2001) at the St. Vincent Medical Center
in Jacksonville, Fla., following a brief illness. A
lifelong resident of Brantley County, he was a son of the
late Donald Alton Morgan and Thea Dowling Morgan. He was
employed at Babcock & Wilcox in Brunswick for 13 years
and with Georgia Pacific for 13 years.  For the past
several years he worked as a carpenter with his uncles
Kenny and Arnie Morgan. He is survived by a son and
daughterinlaw, Wayne and Bonnie Morgan, and a daughter
and soninlaw, Anita and Jeff Johns, all of Nahunta;
four grandchildren, Kristen and Kyle Morgan, and Jay and
Jeremy Johns; and a very special friend, Jane Strickland.
There will be visitation tonight at Chambless Funeral
Home. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral
home chapel. The Rev. Leon Wilson and the Rev. Raymond
Willis will officiate. The chapel service will be
followed by burial at the Rob Lewis Cemetery in the
Raybon community. The pallbearers will include Wain
Brooker, Cleve Herrin, Julian Willis, Jackie Tumlin and
Vance Wilson.

BRISTOL-Mr. James Harold Smith, 65, of Bristol, died
Monday morning (July 16, 2001) at the Satilla Regional
Medical Center, Waycross, after a long illness. A native
and lifelong resident of Pierce County, he was a farmer
and a member of Martha Memorial United Methodist Church.
His parents were the late Harry Allen Smith and Jewel
Loper Smith. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara
Clemons (husband L.C.) of Macclenny, Fla. and Felicia
Hodges (husband Ray) of Glen St. Mary, Fla.; a brother,
John Smith (wife Sue) of Bristol; a sister, Edna
Boatright (husband Alton Jr.) of Bristol; four
grandchildren, Tonya Williams and Jeremy Clemons, both of
Macclenny, and Justin and Joshua Hodges of Glen St. Mary;
a greatgrandson, Dawson Williams, Macclenny; and three
nieces and three nephews. The funeral will take place at
3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Martha Memorial Church. The Rev.
L.H. Wester, the Rev. Irvin Rozier and the Rev. Robert
Hendrix will officiate.  Burial will be in the church
cemetery. The body will be taken to the residence at 5
p.m. today and will remain there until it is taken to the
church for viewing starting at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The
pallbearers will be Mark Boatright, Anthony Smith, Timmy
Smith, Marty Boatright, Jeremy Clemons, Justin Hodges and
Tom Smith. Everyone attending the service will be
honorary escort as will Dr. Perry Street and Home Health
Care personnel. Arrangements are with Crosby Funeral Home

Estelle P. Hyers, 87, died here late Wednesday night
following a short illness. A Waycross resident since
1984, she was a Bacon County native and had worked at the
Peterson Cloth Shop in Alma for many years. She was a
member of the Alma Tenth Street Church of God. The
funeral is at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Tenth Street Church,
with burial in the Damascus Cemetery. The Rev. Huelet
Smith, the Rev. Frank Gupton and the Rev. Earl Merritt
will officiate. She was the widow of Christopher C.
"Chris" Hyers. She was the daughter of James A. and
Zettie Steedley Peterson and stepdaughter of Cindy Watson
Peterson. Also preceding her in death were a son, LaVell
Hyers, and a brother, Arthur Peterson. She is survived by
two sons, LaMorris Hyers (wife Vydell) of Waycross and
Roswell Hyers (wife Joanne) of Mulberry, Fla.; two
daughters, Deloris Sowell (husband Henry) of Waycross and
Delane Bagwell (husband Forest) of Virginia Beach; a
brother, James A. Peterson Jr. of Carrollton; a
daughterinlaw, Joyce Hyers of Hortense; a special
friend, Doris Davis of Waycross; and 10 grandchildren and
20 greatgrandchildren. The family will receive friends
at Crosby Funeral Home in Alma from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Sunday. The family will meet at the residence of LaMorris
and Vydell Hyers in Waycross. The pallbearers will be
Donny Hyers, Devone Bagwell, Jay Milton, Donny Peterson,
Larry Stokes and Craig Smart. Everyone attending the
funeral will be considered honorary escort.

REEVES NIMMER BLACKSHEAR-Mrs. Julia Reeves Nimmer, 87,
died Sunday morning (July 22, 2001) at her residence,
following a long illness. She was a Ridgeland, SC native
but resided in Pierce County most of her adult life. Her
parents were Dr. Hubert Reeves and Rosa Berg Reeves. She
was a member of the Ridgeland High School Class of 1930.
She and her late husband, Steve Nimmer Sr., established
and operated Nimmer Chevrolet & John Deere Tractor Co.
for many years. She was the bookkeeper until her
retirement. Her husband represented Pierce County in the
Georgia General Assembly, and she and he were
instrumental in organizing the first monthly supper club
in Blackshear in 1958, a group that remains active today.
She was also a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph's
Catholic Church, Waycross, and active in its Altar
Society. She was a founding member of the Still Lake
Fishing Club in Brantley County and "grandmother" of the
Steve Nimmer Sportsmans Club. Two sons, Stephen Dow
Nimmer Jr. and Joseph Nimmer, preceded her in death. She
is survived by two daughters and sonsinlaw, Rosemarie
and Thomas Harris of Brandon, Miss. and Ginger and Evan
DeLoach of Blackshear; a son and daughterinlaw, Tommy
and Ruth Nimmer of Homerville; six sisters, Irene Belle
of Norwalk, Ohio, Viola Dean and Sally Saxon, both of
Ridgeland, Betty Atkins and Trudy Lyons, both of Hilton
Head, SC and Barbara Mills of Bluffton, SC; and several
grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and other relatives.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in
the chapel of PearsonTreadwell Funeral Home, with burial
in the Blackshear Cemetery. The family will receive
friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 until 9
o'clock. Memorial donations may be made to the youth
groups of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Blackshear First
Baptist Church.

Coy Bryan Youmans, and several nieces and nephews. Mr.
Youmans was employed by the Emanuel County Board of
Education for 32 years. He was also a farmer and a member

He was a retired general foreman with CSX  Railroad. Mr.

in Nahunta, GA after an extended illness. She was a

Gaddy and Elmina Moore Gaddy. She had been making her
home in Waycross since 1958 where she was a member of the
Crawford Street Baptist Church and had served as
President of the W.M.U. for four years and nursery
teacher for many years. She was preceded in death by two
brothers Burl Gaddy and Jasper Gaddy. She is survived by
three daughters Barbara Kirkland and her husband W.C. of
Tampa,FL; Faye Skiff of Bartow, FL and Julie Miller and
her friend D.L. Taylor of Waycross. One sister Mildred
Watkins of Plant City, FL. Five grandchildren W.C.
Kirkland,Jr. and Wayne Kirkland both of Tampa,FL; Jack

Groshesky Brown, 90, died Wednesday (July  1, 2001) in
the Burke County Medical Center following a long
illness. She was a native of WilkesBarre, Penn.(born
October 04, 1910) but had resided in  Melbourne, Fla.
most of her life and had lived in Waycross for  15 years.
She was married to the late Herbert Brown and was
daughter of the late John Groshesky and Eva Palonis
Groshesky. She was a retired hair dresser and was a
member of the  Jamestown Baptist Church. The survivors
include a son, Robert Allen Brown (wife Delaine) of
Augusta; a grandson, Troy Allen Brown of Statesboro; two
great grandchildren, Cameron and Morgan Brown. A memorial
service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Music
Funeral Home Chapel.  The family will be receiving
friends Saturday morning from 10 until 11 o'clock at the

She moved to Waycross in the 1920s and was a member of
Greater St. Paul Baptist for many years. Her husband was
the late Ferdinand Smith and her parents were Lucious and
Elizabeth Hayes. Also preceding her in death were 13
brothers and sisters, and a godchild, Franklin D. Hill.
She is survived by seven godchildren, Minnie Deloris
Myles (husband George) of Sanford, Fla., Bonnie Jean
Henderson, Maude Elizabeth Leonard and Larry D. Hill, all
of Waycross, Joe Nathan Hill Jr. (wife Gertrud) and
William R. Hill (wife Frances, both of Columbia, SC, and
Noel Alphonso Hill (wife Bernice) of Atlanta; a
sisterinlaw, Lettie Wright of Sanford, Fla.; 23

Mr. Adam Houston Holley (8-2-2001) Phelman, Ga. native
(Miles-Odum Funeral Home, Waycross) Adam Houston Holley
died early Thursday evening, August 2, 2001 at Satilla
Regional Medical Center in Waycross, Georgia after an
extended illness. He was born in Phelman, Georgia to the 
late Joe Holley and Mrs. Rema Dollar Holley Cason, on
July 16, 1926. He had made his home in Fitzgerald,
Georgia for several years, he had been a resident of
Waycross, Georgia making his        home in the Jamestown
Community for the last thirtyfour years.  He served in
the United States Navy for two terms. He retired from the
State of Georgia as a State Revenue Agent in 1982. He    
received an Associate Degree in Law from South Georgia
College, Douglas, Georgia.  He was preceded in death by
his father, Joe Holley and three brothers; Howard Holley,
Calvin Holley, and Carol Holley.  Remembered by his
friends as "Holley" he is survived by his  mother, Mrs.
Rema Cason of Fitzgerald, Georgia. His loving wife of
fiftytwo years, Mrs. Merle Holley, of Waycross, Georgia.
He was a faithful father of four children. Two daughters,
Ms. Diane H. Boatwright of Sarasota, Florida and Mrs.
Cindy (husband, Greg) Walker of Waycross, Georgia. Two
sons, Mitch Holley and Travis Holley both of Waycross.
One sister, Mrs. Juanita McLamb of
Fitzgerald, Georgia. Also a sister inlaw, Ms. Peggy King

afternoon, August 5, 2001 at 2:00 in the MilesOdum
Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Evergreen
Cemetery, Fitzgerald Georgia at 5:00 PM. Family receiving
friends Saturday night August 4, 2001 at MilesOdum
Funeral Home from 6:008:00 PM. Family has requested that
memorials be sent to SouthEast Cancer Unit. Arrangements
with MilesOdum Funeral Home.
