Elizabeth Newsome Cates
ALBANY — Elizabeth Newsome Cates, 87, of Albany died at her residence Tuesday,
November 5, 2002.
Her memorial service will be today 2 p.m. at Walden Chapel of First United
Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Donald M. Kea and the Rev. Rodney Stamey will
officiate. Her remains were cremated and will be buried at Crown Hill Cemetery.
A native of Lee County, she had lived in Albany for many years. She was a
member of First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Cates was the owner of ABC
Furniture Co. and she was a master bridge player. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Albert Boyd Cates; her father and mother, Lawrence Newsome and
Lenora King Newsome Findley; and her stepfather, John Cleveland Findley.
She is survived by her godson, J.P. "Jimmy" Watkins Jr. and his wife, Raines of
Albany; their children, Porter and Leslie Watkins and Scott and Pamela Watkins,
all of Atlanta; a cousin, Mrs. Thomas McKay of Los Angeles, CA; special
friends, Sharon and Richard King of Albany, Brian Hornek of Albany.
