Kimbrell Stern Announcements - 2004
Date of Birth: September 15, 1907  
Date of Death: June 13, 2004  

A native of Social Circle, GA, Mrs. Bateman was the daughter of John Hurst and 
Mary Whatley Adams. She graduated from Georgia State College for Women. She 
began teaching school in Barnesville, GA. In 1941, the Bateman’s moved to 
Albany where she and her husband Lee were the owners/operators of Southeastern 
Wholesale Floral Supply Company. They remained in the wholesale floral business 
until they retired. Mrs. Bateman worked as a substitute teacher for a number of 
years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a charter member 
of the Beulah Wakeford Sapp Sunday School Class. Mrs. Bateman was a member and 
served as the President of United Methodist Women. For 18 years she served as a 
circle leader. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy 
where she was a Past President, the Thronateeska Chapter of the D.A.R. where 
she was a past Regent. Mrs. Bateman was a charter member and President of the 
John Sumner Chapter of the National Society of Colonial Dames of the 17th 
Century, a member of the Society of Magna Carta and a member and Past President 
of the Albany Garden Club. Mrs. Bateman was preceded in death by her husband, 
Lee H. Bateman and their son, John Daniel Bateman, Sr.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Mrs. Mariellen Johnson 
Bateman. 
The funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at First 
United Methodist Church of Albany with entombment to follow in Crown Hill 
Mausoleum. Dr. Donald M. Kea, Rev. Thad Haygood and Rev. Scott Hagan will 
officiate.
