E. L. Baxter

The funeral service of Elzie Leonard Baxter, 55, of 915 Riley St., who died Sunday, will
be conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Kimbrell - Stern. Interment will follow in Riverside
Cemetery.
Mr. Baxter, a native of Newton, had lived in Albany 18 years and was an accountant.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Bible Baptist Church and the VFW.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Baxter and Eugene Baxter, both of Memphis, Tenn.; a 
sister, Mrs. Ruth Wingate, Albany; three brothers, the Rev. W. R. Baxter Jr., Albany,
Warner Baxter, Montgomery, Ala., and Billy Baxter, Tucker; a half sister, Mrs. Rosalie
Seymour, Pensacola, Fla., and three half brothers, Ray Baxter and James Baxter, both
of Thomasville, and Gene Baxter, White Springs, Fla.

Elsie Leonard was the son of Elsie Albert Baxter and Mary Lisa Mushgrove.  He was born in Apr 1925.  
His mother died in July 1925.  Elsie Albert then left the young infant, Elsie Leonard, with his 
brother and sister-in-law, Willis Robert Baxter, SR. and Katherine Mae Boutwright.  He was raised 
by Willis and Kate as part of their family.  Ruth Ellen Baxter Wingate, Rev. W. R. Baxter, Jr., 
Warner Baxter, and Billy Baxter were actually his cousins not his brothers and sister by blood.
Elsie Albert Baxter then married Laura Belle Davis who had issues Hubert Ray Baxter,  James Robert Baxter, 
William Gene Baxter, and Rosa Lee Baxter Seymour.  Therefore, these issues being half siblings to 
Elsie Leonard.  Later Laura Belle Davis and Elsie Albert Baxter were divorced so one reason the 
half siblings were not raised around Elsie Leonard.
Christopher Columbus Baxter and Pennie Bentley were Willis Robert, Sr. and Elsie Albert's parents.  
Columbus was the brother to my great grandfather, Robert H. Baxter.  Elsie Albert  and Willis Robert, Sr. 
were my grandmother's, Laura Alice Baxter, first cousin.   Willis and Kate visited my grandparents in 
Florida  and the young cousins played together....
